Rust

Low FPS with a great PC?
Maybe someone can help here. I have 1400+ hours on Rust. I've played this game on maximum settings for a year now with no problems. Now all the sudden I can barley move in the game the FPS is so low. I watch my RAM use and this game all the sudden maxes it out. I'm running AMD 8-core 4.2 GHz processor, 8GB of DDR3 RAM, AMD Radeon R9 280 3GB GDDR 5 GPU, a Gigabyte 970-A motherboard. I've reinstalled the game, I've updated Drivers and even reinstalled them, then I used the AMD software to optimize the games to the GPU and I still get 10FPS at most. Is this normal? I'm running Warhammer Vermintide at maximum settings and still getting 40FPS+. Even games like Fallout 4 and The Witcher are running at maximum settings. Why is this only a problem with Rust?

People were saying its my BIOS that is set to use the wrong PCI slot, but other heavy games run amazingly so that can't be the problem. Others say that Rust by default uses on board graphics, but I have used the AMD software to specifically set the game to be optimized on the GPU that I have.

You have pretty close to the same specs as my computer and I am currently not having any issues. HAve you tried wiping your hard drive and doing a fresh install of Windows? Sounds like there is some form of malware eating up your processor. On another note, I switched from AMD/ATI's video cards over to Nvidia due to same issues like this about two years ago; they released a driver update and it crashed every game I tried to play due to the video driver.

It could be Maleware, but then I don't think it would only effect Rust. Gonna do a re-install of my OS which is Windows 7 Ultimate x64. That might be a good idea, I'll update afterwords.

Have you experimented with different graphics settings? A new patch may have changed something which your card/drivers don't like. Try playing with shadow settings etc

After the Thursday wipe my game ran beautifully better than it had in months. On Friday I there was another update to Rust (mine is set to only update when I start it up) since then I've had boatloads of issues with the game randomnly hanging for 1+ seconds. In a game like this where you can be in a battle with others or hunting a bear... not good to randomnly hang.

I've changed plenty of settings and most of the settings are way below what I can normally run.

Now that I notice the game is using a crazy amount of ram...

It won't take take that long and that was uncalled for. You're getting exactly what you paid for, so there's nothing to complain about.
The developers are doing optimisations this month bythe way. Should help a lot. But if you expect smooth performance all the way up until release, you need to look up what an Alpha is.

Check your drivers, you probably have some out of date. You can get iobit driver booster cracked on onhax.me

I'm against pirating software but thanks anyways. AMD has there own software to search for updates. As far as I know I have checked all the drivers that would matter.

Hit Start and type regedit

Then you go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

Next you go to SYSTEM

Then ControlSet001

Then Services

Here you'll find a folder called Ndu
In that folder you'll find a file called Start, Click it and change it to the value 4 and then you save.

Enjoy the game without 99% RAM Load.

Great solution by the way, but the Memorie Leak problem is windows 8 and 10. There is not NDu in windows 7.

The Facepunch workers are working in fix the fps problem because a lot of people have the fps problem, even people with great PCs like you. I think in the next weeks or months the game will be more optimized. Now I'm playing in low population servers and I don't have drops, but in high population servers I have drops too.
