Calculating item cost?

I was looking for a way to determine the cost of an item to trade with someone else and I found this [ http://rust.wikia.com/wiki/Item_Cost_List ], but I dont quite understand how it works could anyone explain with an example on how they calculate the value of an item or resource with an example. If anyone has perhaps a better way of valueing something than this link msg me. Thanks

Are you talking about buying an Ak for wood ? Something like that?

yeah like if someone wanted an Ak and they have wood how much wood would equal that ak. In that link they were talking about gunpowder being the unit but I dont understand how to work it out.

You will not find a deffinitive answer. It really depends on the server. I have not played vanilla Since blueprints when i loved the game, then you had to deal with people or you would never get what you needed. Back then the standard would be stone and wood would trade equally maybe a 5% gouge for the seeker(seeker-2300 stone for suppliers 2000 stone. Everything else is open market so pretty much someone will name there price in a server and after people see a standard it starts rolling, it will never be the same on different servers. So on a low pop server resourses such as stone and wood would be next to worthless compared to say an AK while on a high pop server back then people might be throwing out old weapons for 3k wood.

Edit: People do not tend to make a trade based on the work taken to get the items.

My best advice is go meet your neighbors, that and watch the chat(market). DO NOT TRADE WITH UNKNOWNS you will get ripped off we used to go do drop trades with people we didnt like then have allys waiting to jump them to bring back the stuff, I know sounds messed up but its a pvp game about resources you should be cautious of such.
