Rust
Lag, performance drop when server is populated with buildings
Hello guys, I am posting this from my job.

I have a serious issue where I go from 90 fps to 1 for 1 second, the lags become more frequent in time. I noticed that the game uses up all my ram, 7.2 gb out of 8gb.

I have a Fx 8320 @ 4.7 ghz
Msi Gtx 970 @ 1500 mhz

Running on a windows 7 64 bit on lowest settings possible except draw distance and shaders, with FXAA, Sun shafts and Sharpen.
I am bassicaly turning off even explorer.exe when running the game to give more available ram.

I noticed that the issue occurs when the server becomes more populated of buildings.
At this point on the server I used to play for 3 weeks now the game is unplayable after 15 minutes as the server has become more populated with buildings.

I bassicaly have to quit playing rust as the performance is incredibily awkard, bassicaly unplayable. Last night I had to quit as I lost 20k of stone, bolt and thompson, full armor as when I encountered the lag, the game decided to pass me character through the texture of the elevator in one of the caves. Then my body dropped under the elevator and when the elevator dropped it pushed my body again through the texture into nothingness while i was waiting for helped, maybe if I pressed Kill immediately that wouldn't happen but really I did not expect that to go that bad. When I died I saw for one second how I was falling into water as it seems under the map there is water.

I known this is a known issue but I am putting this out there for empathy and for the devs.
I am working in a gaming company and I know that things are not so easy to fix but isn't there a way to reduce Ram usage?

Please post your peformance issues and specifications here maybe a good guy will see them.
The game runned much smoother in the past, something is way wrong in the latest version.

Please post any performance tips that actually work, except graphical settings, is there any way to force the game use less ram?

Kind regards,
Cristian

Don't leave your base, make a bear rug and a fridge, then shut the game off and play something else.

I have 2 bases in the same cave full of auto turrets, that's not my problem but thanks for the reply.

I'm getting worse performace after the recent patch as well. I keep getting massive fps drops that is making the game unplayable. This didn't used to happen.

One thing I noticed recently, when you join a server on the July 2016 version of Rust, only 1800 assets are loaded. The server loads quicker and a 200 slot server doesn't have the fps drop like we have here.

On this version of Rust, there are like 2400-2600 assets when joining a server, the server loads slower and in a 200 slot server you will find crazy fps drops.

So what it all comes down to is a lot of people aren't able to play on 200 slot servers here. If you're having fps drops, just find a smaller server, running a smaller map. Problem solved.

yes it could be, the thing is that on the server I play altough the map is quite big there is a limit of 50 players, the issues starts when the server becomes more populated with structures. After the wipe the game runned flawlesly, after 1-2 weeks of people joining and building things it became worse, now after 15 minutes of gameplay it's unplayable at all.

This really needs to be addressed. I love this game but the performance impact is making it unplayable.

Yup because those players add more assets to the map (foundations, walls, furnaces etc) I know I said slots, but the map size is the key. More map = more assets to fill map. (trees, boulders, logs, random coast liter, rad towns etc)
I like how people go onto these 200 slot servers and then complain about toxicity and lag.

60 person servers are the best. Rust should not be struggling to find a patch of land that hasn't been built on already.

Hei, this is my original account. That's a 50 players slot server stop assuming wtf.

It's there any console command to clear the ram or assets? Don't take me for dumb, I know you will tell me to go all around the map and c4 everything, I am talking about something in the console that will refresh and clear information that I don't require. The ram usage increases over time because it doesn't clear out, it just loads everything and leaves it there and wants to add more. Why when starting i use 5 to 6 gb of ram and works fine and after a while, 7.3gb and almost crashes anything. All the explanation provided are useless for me, I want a solution for the problem, ram usage is insane.

I might as well play that game for ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ called Gta V or some latest Hitman, but I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ want to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ play RUST!!!! Go ♥♥♥♥ yourselfs devs. You even ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up again the bolt rifle model, now I can see through the texture. Wtf are you doing over there? Hire me as a tester and I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ swear I won't let you send any updates if it ♥♥♥♥♥ up everything. Do you want me to sell a liver and buy 32 gb of ram? Wtf
