Though the interesting thing about your question is that through the vast majority of the game you are carving your own path. So the bulk of the navigation will be retracing the tunnels you have personally created. You will be doing a lot of jumping, but I would not compare it to a Platformer or fast paced Metroidvania. I hope that gives you a good idea.
Edit: Slight spoilers regarding a powerup, but it definitely pertains to your question.
You will eventually get one that negates fall damage completely. This might influence your decision so I will leave it here.
