First Impressions
Just from playing through Fornost, first impressions are:

It's the same game. There's some minor visual cleanup and stuff (including the prerendered cutscenes) is (poorly) AI-upscaled to 4K which is why it's so much larger.

The UI is updated. Ally info is always on screen. Consumables have their own panel like a modern game.

There's a camera lock-on that makes ranged attacks and certain abilities MUCH easier to use on a controller. Doesn't impact melee controls (you can't lock-on and strafe around enemies.)

You can hotswap between the characters in-level, allowing you to properly equip and level them as things drop (or just switch to play them outright.)

Feels otherwise the same so far.

can I play with randoms or can only play with friends?

Can play with randos. There's a public room search and a quick match function (uses EGS now.) These were features in the original game too IIRC. It was sorta-kinda built with drop-in/drop-out multiplayer in mind.
is it crossplay with randoms? or just pc

Can't tell, but I'm fairly sure just PC (there's no platform indicator on the game list.) If it were cross-play, I feel like that'd be a huge selling feature, but Aspyr also didn't list the actual improvements to the game that ARE there so IDFK. Would need to get someone on a different platform to see if their games show up on the list. Theoretically you could - it's EGS - but I doubt it.
The trailer doesn't show any blood effects when enemies are hit. Is that just the case in the trailer, or has the game been censored overall?

Probably it's online multiplayer within the same platform (e.g. steam-only users). Although there is EOS sdk dll present in the steam build, so crossplay between steam and egs could be a thing, if it was implemented by the devs. I don't have this version, so can't test it out.
Pretty sure that crossplay between pc and the console versions is out of scope of this release though.

I'd imagine this too. IDK anyone who has a console version of this and I'm not buying the game twice to find out either.

Aye, that would be a waste. Gog version contains both steam api and eos sdk too. So either it's just Aspyr being lazy, making a single build for all the pc stores thus containing redundancy, or it could mean crossplay. I suspect the former, but users will figure it out sooner or later.
Do you know if the co-op / multiplayer is stuck with an always open mic? or can you disable voice chat?

There's no voice chat at all in the game itself as far as I remember. You'd need to use EGS or Steam's social panels to do voice chat.
