Well, most VNs that I know about are hentai games (eroge), which get a special censored and/or cut and/or reworked "all ages" version for the release on Steam and a "18+ patch" which returns the original plot and "H-scenes" to them, posted by the game's devs on their Patreon page or some other website, so I wondered about the same question as the topicstarter when I came here.
