Game is so ridiculously hard it makes it not fun to play
I was having a pretty good time with this game until I started having to fight Ice Wraiths that hit my entire party from short or long range, and Crabs that basically soak up damage and do about 65 per hit to my characters. I basically drink Health potions on every single enemy. Now I'm also fighting slimes that poison everyone. This game is harder than Dark Souls.

WTF is up with this garbage? you have to basically run around the room like a bunch of pansies and throw knives at enemies because if you try to get close you basically take too much damage and die. Getting really frustrating to play this game.

**Edit**

After playing the game more, and getting to the end game, a lot of the overall difficulty falls off once I got the hang of the game. Early on the game is actually at it's hardest, once you get better equipment and levels, and learn better spells, the game does not pose much of the same kind of challenge as it once did. You can still get wrecked but generally on the default normal difficulty, you can start face rolling enemies pretty easily with two high armor tanks up front, A mage and a charcter of your choice.

* Accuracy is NOT required. It is good but you it's not more important than armor.
* Armor IS required, especially for your two frontliners. Both your frontliners should be wearing heavy armour and your backliners MAY want at least 2 points to stop light armour giving penalties. It depends on what your backliners are and what they're going to wear.
* Battlemage is not a mediocre class, it's a straight upgrade to Wizard. When you want a caster you're generally going to pick Battlemage or Alchemist.
* Having a Mino-thrower is good. Having a Mino at the front is good. Having a Mino-thrower at the front is bad. Throwers need 5x Crit and 5x Throwing. Then you either go full accuracy or 3Dodge, 2Accuracy. Both frontliners need to dedicate five points to armor but a Thrower simply doesn't have the points for it.

- -

Send the Ratling up front and make him into a Knight.
- Mutation + Evasive/Protection.
- 5x Armor, 5x Light Weapons, 5x Crit OR 3x Dodge, 2x Accuracy.
- Meteor Set, Serpent Blade or Sickle Sword.

Your Insectoid is now a Fighter.
- Chitin Armor + Quick.
- 5x Armor, 5x Heavy Weapons, 5x Conc OR 3x Conc, 2x Accuracy.
- Bane/Claymore, Crystal Set

Drop the Mino to the backline. Barb or Rogue, both are good.
- Headhunter + Aggressive.
- 5x Throwing, 5x Critical, 5x Accuracy OR 3x Dodge, 2x Accuracy.
- Bear Skull Helmet, Bear Claws, Rogue set.

Lizard Alchemist can stay where he is.
- Fast Metabolism + Endure Elements.
- 5x Alchemist, 5x Fire, 2x Conc 3x Air, Finish Conc (give him all three skillbooks).
- Archmage set.

Seems solid, that party Woudo. I just rolled another one for fun a couple hours ago, don't know if I'm going to stick with it though. I don't know but I really like having two Alchemists becuse of the herb growing mechanic, but you probably don't need two...

I have an Insectoid Barb w/ Heavy and Armor
Lizard Man Barb w/ Light Weapons and Accuracy
Lizard Man Alch w/ FIre Mag and Concentration
Mino Alch w/ Throwing and Alch

I do like that party you posted above, I may go for it.

Actually Accuracy is required for effective weapon use. This includes ranged weapons like Firearms. Using a weapon but missing a lot won't get the job done so having a total Accuracy rating of at least 30 - from Accuracy skill, Dexterity and other bonuses - helps a lot!

It should be noted however that some late game weapons provide substantial accuracy bonuses, so if you can tought it out, you can really min-max.
Ancient Toaster 4 ENE 2015 a las 11:20 a. m.
What is a solid accuracy to shoot for without investing too many skill points away from other important skills? Should I just aim for 2 Accuracy or is it work maxing?
Dr.Disaster 4 ENE 2015 a las 1:22 p. m.
30+ is a good value. A few monsters can require more i.e. 50+ for those ultra-fast mosquitos but here magic also does the trick.

I found the combat generally simple, even in the later stages of the game (kiting used religiously). My largest gripe was that I’m either too stupid to figure out some of the puzzles level 9+, or they’re simply too vague/confusing.

That's my biggest gripe as well. So many vague puzzles with bizzare and abstract logic. In grimrock 1, the puzzles were just right, they made sense. Some were stupid easy but others were hard but could be solved with some thought. I find a majority of the puzzles in G2 to just really be waaay out there. I end up having to consult walkthroughs and I find myself saying....seriously wtf? Instead of....why didn't I think of that?

My issue with the puzzles in Grimrock 2 was never knowing if I was supposed to solve it yet. A good example is the spell puzzle in Keelbreach Bog. You find it extremely early but don't get the answers until near the end of the game. Despite the game being open world, people will generally follow the same course on their first playthrough.

Twigroot Tunnels (because it's close by)
Keelbreach Bog (depends what direction players take after leaving twigroot)
Ruins of Desarune (can't open pyramid, can't open cemetery) (fireball scroll here)
[Archives] (cemetery clue here)
Sewers
Hamlet of Stormbreach
Crystal Caves
Cemetery (lightning bolt spell here, water shrine clue here)
Pyramid / Nex
Nex / Pyramid

People generally push forward until they get stuck before they look back. Following the general progression of the player, you can see how late into the game the answer to a (most likely but not necessarily) early game puzzle is.

Really!? thats not even close to the order that i did things in.

After Shipwreck beach i kinda wandered around outside for awhile, saw the pyramid, checked around the outside of the cemetery and eventually ending up in the Ruins of Desarune.

Desarune took awhile to traverse, at the end of it all though i found this place called the archives, couldent figure out how to solve that damn thing, went the other way and found the sewers.

Walked around the sewers for abit, but i was getting hammered by enemies so i left, did some back tracking and ended up in Keelbreach Bog.

Shortly after entering the area i noticed those damn mosquito swarms and was really freaked out by them at first, but then quickly realized they die super quick to a fireball spell, kinda fought my way around and was about to cut through some bushes when i noticed the damn giant frog on the other side, i didnt wanna fight with that so i kinda just backed off and ended up in twigroot tunnels, the bossfight itself wasent too hard, and i decided to try and grind afew levels, in about half an hour i gained an extra two levels and decided that would be more then enough to offset my errors in judgement, and got the serpent staff as i was leaving.

I remembered their being a bunch of golden snake statues and some odd phrase about a key being missing so i decided to take the serpent staff and put it in the place in the wall, but nothing happend, so i decided to leave it their and figure it out later, ended up backtracking to do twigroot tunnels, and the one damn thing i really hate happend, they cut me off from leaving before i even realized it. It took quite awhile before i was able to get out, the ratling den was fairly tough and i still had not found many decent armor peices besides the plate peice in RoD, but i eventually managed to fight my way through it, and scored some nice stuff in return.

Went back to the pyramid because it got me really curious, i thought maybe i had to do something with the staff so i grabed it and fired it at every one of the snakes, or atleast i would have but i remember not being able to do that, after that i noticed the glowing spot in the lake below and was looking for a way to get at it, found both of the hidden switches on the side of the pyramid, but that didnt do it, i left it again and went off to the sewers thinking i could handle it now.

Did alot of under water exploration their, the tetris peice puzzle confused me but after about 10 mintues i figured it out, managed to score a really nice heavy weapon to use, but it was a two hander so i couldent use it with a shield just yet, was kinda annoyed but only had one more level for it to go, after that i had a very aggresive run-in with that leprichan, scored a sweet shield that i sadly couldent use yet, and surfaced in hamlet beach, three minutes later i see one of those really agressive wargs and i decide to leave and return MUCH later, and went back to the pyramid.

Arrived at the pyramid and grabed the staff, first thing i did that i should have done much earlier was shoot it at the door, man that couldent have been simpler, left the staff back in its place and proceeded into the pyramid, while the mummies were pretty tame and simple to defeat, the snakes were extremely vicious, and since they turned whenever they were on a tile beside you it was damn near impossible to avoid damage from them.

The pyramid took a real long ass time to complete, but what i was really not expecting when i beat it was being thrown into a giant ass empty field with literally hundreds of mummies, i wasent prepared or ready for such an extreme thing, then i noticed the two giant fricken golem things and i knew immediatly i had to book it, thank god i had invisibility, so i managed to sneak out the teleporter on the other side, after escaping that death pit i decided to clear out the rest of Keelbreach Bog that i didn't explore.

Those ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ frogs stole my damn sword! while sure i fought the frogs in the sewer, they never jumped behind me so i never actually got hit by them, i was so freaked out i accidentally jumped into the water and started panicing as i looked for a way to surface, almost drowned to death, guzzled afew potions and ran for a crystal to revive the remaining party, after the party was back in working order i made it my mission to get my damn sword back!

Luckily i managed to kill the right frog first and got it back real quick, now with sword in hand i went and cleared out the rest of the bog, the fish guys showed up as i took a gem and were swarming me real fast, the ended up surrounding me, i pushed myself into a corner to slow lessen their onslaught, took me alot of health potions but i fought through it with no one dieing.

At this point i decided to go the cemetry again, and i ended up wasting three hours with that damn block trying to get the door to open, my idea was "lets try all the possible combinations" which i ended up trying every 1,2 and 3 direction combo possible, though it was during three that i realized "wait a minute, if they also include going in the same direction more then once... ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ this will take forever" so i left, went for hamlet bay now that i had some better armor and more levels, the wargs were still pretty bad but no were near as dangerous, but i still had yet to see those ogres... nothing says surprized like turning around and immediatly losing your entire front row, i immediatly ran and decided "thats the last thing im going to do ever"

Ran into the sewers, bolted for the crystal and decided to give that archive puzzle a try, it took me awhile but i eventually figured out the thing, went inside and found a note telling my how to open the cemetry, and felt really really REALLY stupid for wasting 3 hours trying to get that door open.

(starting to notice how long this damn thing is...)

Went into the cemetery, and cut my way through the zombies, took a little while but after some exploration i found the crypts entrance, this place took me awhile, though after exploring for some time i found Bane! I felt empowered and dangerous now with this baby! After some more exploration i ended up finding the boss, this was not a fight i was ready for, had to cast invisiblity and produce some potions, after a ten minute long and brutal fight i was triumphant, sadly half my party died so experience was finally at this point not equal between all members, and you have no idea just how much control this kind of thing has over me, it almost made me go and load an earlier save, almost atleast.

After defeating the boss and (to what i had though at the time) completing the dungeon i left and looked around for any possible place i had not been to yet, with that danger spot in the sewers popping up in my mind i decided to check it out now, i was not prepared for a giant ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cannon to the face! i was immediatly destroyed and had my first game over here, granted i was on normal so the sheer fact i had not died YET was sheer luck all on its own, i reloaded and decided to enter the area invisible, it worked, i didnt get a cannon stuffed into my mouth upon entering the room, i sneaked into a spot were i was not visible to the giant rat, dispelled the magic and went to town on the minions, the giant rat didnt move. After taking care of the small fry i went invisible again and went up right behind the guy and backstabed him twice with my dual wielder, took down about a 3rd of his health like that! whoa! After that though my mage had run out of energy, but it was fine cause this guy was clearly made for ambush, his actual ability to fight one on one was pretty meager at best, he hits hard but he doesnt hit fast.

At this point the only places i had left to go was figuring out how to get onto that damn island or hamlet, i still had literally no clue how to get onto that island, actually i hadent even figured out i could talk to those damn heads by clicking on them yet, so i was missing a crapton of information, i honestly just thought that they were meant to symbolize that the island master was always watching you.

I think you get what im trying to say now, no one had the same adventure as anyone else.

My order of progression has been different as well, and I'm still not complete yet. I only have 3 essences created

Shipwreck Beach
Twigroot
Ruins of Desarune - I left here from the hub
Bog
Back to Desarune and then Archives for the clues to open the Cemetary gates
Cemetary
Crypts
Flooded Dungeon
Went back to Archines and finished Lexiconary
Sewers
Hamlet
Crystal Mines - Where I am now

A common mistake is that this game should be played like old dungeon crawling titles. You have to do the 2x2 dance or 3x3 with more enemies, move around a lot and sneak in some strikes to win a fight.

^ I agree. I'm currently on my first playthrough(Hard,Ironman, single use) and I've pretty much gone almost exactly the same way you listed. For me it's been...

Shipwreck Beach
Twigroot Forest, Tunnels
Forgotten River
Keelbreach Bog(unfinished) - Stepped in, was leery, solved teleporter gate, left
Ruins of Desarune (Currently)
Return to Keelbreach Bog

I kinda skirt around the areas I open up, instead of doing any of the caves/dungeons first. I partly hate the puzzles for exactly the same reasion you mentioned. I don't know if I'm supposed to solve it later or now. I mean, when I first entered Ruins of Desarune I couldn't figure out how to get onto the Skybridge after fully creating it from below. I do what else I could in there, getting an Iron Key. I left Desarune thinking I had to do something else or find an alternate way in. For awhile I was walking around with this Iron Key thinking "Wtf am I supposed to do with this?".

I love the game, just as I did the first one but... I'm really annoyed at not knowing where is a good place to go. A lot of times I kept thinking I simply wasn't supposed to be there or fighting those enemies yet. For example I discovered the 2 secrets that open up an area where you can blow the Horn of Summoning for a boss fight against 4 earth elementals(?). I already had a hard time fighting the two-three running around outside the pyramid lol. Another thing that ticks me off is how easy it is for someone like me to trap myself in dungeons. I've done trapped myself in Desarune because when I finally got past the Skybridge, I used a rope to go down a hole, which lead me to the "Spider Puzzle" but I never opened the door to it. I solved the Puzzle so I can move forward... but I can't leave Desarune because I never opened the door. Now I'm hoping by finishing Desarune I'll find an alternate exit...
Woudo 9 ENE 2015 a las 11:17 a. m.
You will although it's a hidden button. Inspect the hallway separating the Meditation Spire and the spider puzzle.
Mindaz The Third 22 ENE 2015 a las 1:59 a. m.
Talking about hard and to make things interesting, it is possible to make island area real fun, especially on low level.

Enter area, solve hovering stones puzzle, to open some paths, wait for night, trigger temple bridge, then trigger wasp pressure plate. Go to temple, place some items on it, that will trigger ice elementals. Go back to east side, dig a treasure and hope for mimic.

And at the end you'll have your personal zoo park.
4 Summon Stones,
4 Ice Elementals,
3 Wasp Swarms,
1 Mimic

There is also a possibility to trigger Pyramid and Zarchons events, to increase your island park population, but this requires later game stage.
