why the #$%& are cannonballs one time use only?!!
what makes arrows, darts, throwing knifes, throwing axes, rocks, and daggers more durable than a giant solid hunk of iron??! why should i have to lug around over 15 kilograms of weight for only a single fight?.... why should i have to use ♥♥♥♥♥♥ guns that do trival damage unless i stack high dex and crit only to have the best weapon of the category be something that i can only use once............

i wouldnt care so much if there was a good gun, but there isnt..... i knew i should have gone missile....

Technically you should have gone throwing, but missile would also have been better, yes.

Some cannonballs are just balls of iorn/stone, some are explosives made to det in a certain time or on impact.

Yep, firearms are the most useless weapon category...by far. Low damage (except for the cannon, which has more than enough other disadvantages and still doesn't cause a lot of damage, at least compared to melee weapons), limited ammo, chance to malfunction, in case of the cannon even chance to backfire, heavy weight. All you can do is wait for mods that change this and/or LoG 3.

And like Bittermint said, throwing weapons are the best ranged weapons, followed by missile weapons.

The answer is simple and should be obvious -

For balance purposes.

The cannon is insanely powerful. Ammo for it is heavily limited for a reason. It would be extremely OP if the ammo was plentiful or reuseable.

its powerful, but not insanly powerful. i can do 60-70 damage easy with the 2h-sword my tank is using and 70-80 damage from my dual weilding evade tank and finally i was able to do 100 damage with the cannon from my alchemist/ranged character. that is very balenced actually(besides the cannonballs being consumable) considering the fact that in general in video games, its normal for the ranged to have the highest damage but is super squishy while the melee classes might not do as much damage, they are alot more durable.

and as i stated before this wouldnt be an issue if there was another gun in the game was actually useful

I recall hitting the Magma Giants in the Desert for 350ish crits.

AFAIK, the idea behind them being consumable isn't so much that the cannon balls themselves disappear but that the cannon balls as inventory items also represent the powder needed to fire the things, and that powder does get used up.

i dont think thats the case because those purple berries are basically basically black powder, they are the only way to make bombs, and bombs require black powder. so if what you said was true, wouldnt you be able to make more black powder? or maybe a recipe where you take like 5 pellets and 1 of the purple berries to make 1 cannonball.

It's not in the game, but craftable shot is a very common suggestion for improving the firearms skill, and if it ever gets implemented then that stuff would be a natural reagent for it.
