Ice/Water Spell in the beginning?
Well, i wanted to have a frost mage in my party early on. Now ive found air, earth and fire damaging spells - all single tile. Tried every single and 2-tile combo so far and cant find any basic frost spell. Please dont tell me this game goes the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ "Water magic isnt for fighting" way. If you really think so, tell than to Robert Drake aka Iceman aka The guy who could freeze the entire universe in an instant.

Water magic is for combat utility and support. It has no "pure element" offensive spells, and the offensive spells it does have all require you to put points in either Earth or Air magic skills.

The comic reference is astonishingly quaint...

Well, then lets pick Sub Zero. Lich King. Ice is a badass element but some "roleplay" games think its only good to wash the sh!t (aka debuffs) from your shoes.

I think that kind of specialization in one magic is silly. It's like a person has to choose between skills of walking and riding a bicycle "just because". It's lazy game design when that sort of limitation exists for no valid reason. Just my opinion.

Water magic in this game allows you to do things other magic skills can not, that is - deliver damage to multiple (that is 8) tiles and disable enemies. That kind of capabilty requires some additional investments to balance it out. So, there's that.

Take note: You can't play a pure element mage in this game. The good spells all require cross training. So you might as well put a point in earth and air because you'll need both of those for the full set of water spells.

Edit: Concentration is also required for many spells.

Water magic is more utilitarian in design than damaging. You can, however, specialize in it with little investment into other elements. In order to cast your first water magic spell, you need at least one point in another element. I'll detail that information below in a spoiler text so if its something you really want to find out later, you can.

First water magic spell requires 1 point in earth, and one point in water. Second requires one point in water, and one point in concentration. Third requires one point in air, and three points in water. For a complete list and all the necessary information so you're not second guessing anything any more, check this link. The spells are listed by category. Water is near the bottom, just above concentration ultility spells. Its a major spoiler: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=327616383

If you don't count Concentration as an element type, Air and Earth can both be done single-element. They're better with cross-element synergies, but if you're going for a hybrid character you might not have the skill points to do more than one.

Since you don't need rank 5 to get all the spells in most of the elements it's pretty doable. Or it has been for me during my first play through; wizard is level 14 with 3 ranks in all 4 elements & concentration.
