Im running out of food.
I don't know what the heck happened. I'm pretty conservative with food. I only eat it when I'm down to less than 25% or when it says I'm starving. But lately, I'm having trouble finding and keeping my party fed. I'm L11 and am down in the crystal mines and noticed that I don't have the freedom to explore like I did at earlier levels. I started the crystal mines with 2 bags of food and I've barely started exploring and I'm down to half a bag of food. For some reason my party is going through so much food.

Edit: is there a cheat I can use to get more food?

I just finished the game tonight and even i had to make 3 hunting trips to get enough food for my characters. Turtles, wargs (dog things),fish, snake tails, and frogs. I felt your pain and over came it , so can you. Press on and adapt and you will finish.
Yeah, not gonna lie. I just cheated and used the console command to spawn turtle steaks. It's much easier than farming and gets the same result. Something weird happened in the game. I went from carrying around a couple of bags worth of food and was doing fine with exploring and puzzle solving. Then all of a sudden I cant seem to keep my party fed. It's like a switch was thrown at L10/L11. If the devs wanna continue down the mmorpg road of farming as a way to stretch gameplay, then I think i'm done with this series. What's next? Random loot. Ugh. At least now with the console cheat I can focus on exploring and puzzle solving which is what I enjoy about the game.

Edit: I'll just pretend that my mage learned a summon turtle steak spell. :)

The only time I lacked food is when I worked on Cementary since it's so devoid of food and that was after I dumped around 25 pieces of food (mainly fish) in Hub since I had problems carrying it. I finished game with like 50 unused/left on flood and I did explore/rest a lot.

When you feel your party needs too much food you prolly rest too much. The rest function is a nice and easy way to restore party health and energy fast but it also increases the need for food.
I think what happened was that after reaching L10ish, its now taking twice as much food to replenish the food meter. This is my first run of the game and I do an awful lot of backtracking. I'd say about 85% - 90% of my time is spent going back over all ready explored tiles. So the food meter is a pain to manage.
Dr.Disaster Mar 1, 2015 @ 11:13am
Well you think wrong. There is no change in the behavior of food or the feed meter throughout the game. Each food item tells exactly how much of the food meter gets replenished by consuming it and this does never change.

Exactly, Resting and backtracking will quickly drain your food since you aren't watching it or you are "idling" a lot.

It also depends on your Party and their Race/Traits, Minotaurs and Lizardmen, with Fast Metabolism, will eat up food significantly faster than others. My first playthrough I had my Minotaur and Lizardman take up that Endurance(or whatever) trait that decreases how much food they need. Also, don't forget you don't need the Food bar at 100% all the time. It's not like you receive penalties from having a low food bar, except when you are starving.

Ultimately it's going to come down to how you play. If you end up needing to backtrack or you take really long to complete areas, then you are going to need to grind/farm for food. I basically got lost for a good 4-6 hours since I decided to do Oldschool on my first playthrough. Even wandering around aimlessly I didn't really run low on food and I didn't need to farm food either. The only instance that I needed to backtrack specifically to find food was after the Cemetary.

Well. I do a lot of backtracking. As I said around 85-90% of my movement is backtracking. Sometimes I forget what I'm even doing in a particular area. I just finished the crystal mines(i think) and I don't even know why I was there to start with. So now the three areas I have left to explore are the cemetary, pyramid and sleet island center. I would never have been able to go to the pyramid had I not cheated to get that staff. I didn't even know I needed it until reading about it online. Same goes for the cemetary. I found the clues to get into the cemetary but I would'nt know it had I not read about it online.

Part of my frustration stems from not knowing what I'm doing on the island. With LoG, I knew exactly what I was doing. I was escaping from the prison and to escape, go down, always down. With LoG2, im not even sure why I wanna leave the island. Its got food and shelter. I could build a life here. Ya know, swiss family robinson, lord of the files, tom hanks wilson type setup. Or something like that. So part of me wants to say F it , declare myself lord of the island and be done. And the other part wants to explore and find interesting puzzles of which I'm finding very few. Maybe the pyramids and cemetary will be better.

Funny enough, Fast Metabolism seems bugged and will instead decrease consumption of food, the bar will decrease slower compared to rest of party. Or at least that was my observation of my party, would have to relaunch to check it again. Then there is necklace that eliminates needs of eating for one person + prevents burdened as bonus.

With my luck, I'll find that necklace towards the end of the game or never. :) I'd love to use that on my 9 str alchemist to prevent burden.

If I recall correctly, that particular necklace is a secret in Desarune. You have to do something and get teleported into a room with 4 treasure chests, one of the chests has the necklace.

I was the same exact way when I first started playing, especially since I decided to do Oldschool mode on a first playthrough. I was constantly thinking; "Where the hell do I go?".

What really spurred me forward was finding and reading the letters the Island Master leaves around. Then catching a glimpse of him on his Wyvern/Drake near his castle. After finding one letter in particular it really got me thinking; "I'm going to murder this D bag and take all his shinies". Thus my goal was found... until I met that bastard leprachaun.

Lol. I all ready went through desarune. Not going back on this playthrough. I think my problem was that I was resting too much like DD and Setzway said. But in my defense I was getting tore up in the crystal mines and I found very little food in there. Things are going much better in the pyramids cause the snakes drop food.
