Adrageron's Guardians and Final Adventure are vastly higher quality in every aspect, except for less varied environments. Combat is more focused on designed encounters, the puzzles are more about noticing environmental hints and clever use of the Grimrock ruleset (when they're not about hidden notes, these dungeons aren't perfect), the writing is sometimes actually good.
And, importantly for being called "Grimrock 3", Adrageron actually sticks close to the original's design ethos and makes his maps, puzzles and story work in the style of Grimrock 2, instead of trying to bolt his epic 40k/LOTR crossover fanfic to an engine unsuited for it.
I've played both Guardians and Final Adventure from start to finish 3 times each, last run being solo on hard, finding all secrets and treasures so i do know what i am talking about.
So i can compare quality of this mods and i do disagree with you, while they are high - it is still Grimrock 2 _MOD_ experience. And i do believe they are best _mods_ (especially Guardians, since FA i liked less than Guardians and Lost City is even less).
Call of House Hardabar goes above mod for Grimrock 2, it is more like standalone game, just using engine of Grimrock 2. That is why i called it Grimrock 3.
I accept loading times, but its very hard to make progress when game loading 4 minutes, freezes for 15 seconds every 3 minutes and crashed on save if you play over 5 minutes. Mod will overload memory usage very fast.
As I said, its very good mod, but ... :(
Did you install patch for mods?
Do you play on Medium graphics?

There's also the unfortunate aspects of walls being demolishable but having no visual indication of being so. Do you long for the days of doom 1 where you had to hump every single wall in order to find secrets? Well look no further, except here we have weapon cooldowns as well. Urgh.
The new thirst and hunger bar added also obscures some of the original interface, so you can't see your evasion or max energy anymore.
A lot of work went into this that I just won't get to experience because of these issues. It's a shame.
There is visual difference between walls that can be destroyed and that cant.
I can tell 100% looking at wall if it can be destroyed, without actually hitting it.
Thirst and hunger meters are used by mod author from another person, they do obscure on 4k (wide screen) big resolutions, i have this problem myself, so can relate.
Now, since I made a lot of progress I am slowly getting game crashes again, but its enough rare and I can play.
I see that there is more data saved for my emptied area and I have tried to delete again. Game looks loading well, but game save editor gonna freeze while loading that gamesave. So I didnt clean my savegame again yet. Will see ...
