Srsly what the hell??????? Japanese dub + eng subs is just plain stupid, its translated like google translate did that or some dumb ass ai. Its impossible to listen to it if you atleast know 50% what they are saying and at the same time subs say completely different $hit i understand not everything can be translated 1:1 but damn it hurts, no really it physically HURTS.

The English sub has so many swearing that don't match the Japanese voices at all. It's like a teenager trying to be cool in his tumblr web novel.

I just switched to Japanese text after the first scene. If it's not subbing what being said, I may as well take the opportunity to learn more kanji.

Wrong. The original was written in Japanese then changed for the "modern audience." EN localizers are known for pushing there western sensibility on Japanese works.

You know Japanese doesn't have cuss words in the same way English does, right? The cuss words don't match the original Japanese because crass language works entirely differently in Japanese than in English. This is why localization doesn't generally match 1:1, because you're translating languages that have different underlying structures and philosophies.

This is also why Creative Business Unit 3 writes the English and Japanese dialogue in parallel, rather than translating from Japanese to English, so that both can be written will without having to be limited by the other. The English isn't localized, it's original, just like the Japanese is. Y'all should look up interviews with the localization team for Final Fantasy XIV, you'll learn some interesting things about the process and the business.

If you want "properly" translated subs for the japanese audio track, then your only option is the french localization cause that one, unlike the other languages, was actually based on the japanese script, which yes, is quite different to the english one.

(in my opinion) horrendously inaccurate translation.

I know right? its so edgy and inappropriate it hurts its like Forspoken all over again (didn't play it just saw the dialogues).

Sighhh... My japanese is not good enough to understand everything raw (about 60%) and eng subs have different script so its unplayable or it jumbles your brain. Guess im forced to use eng sub and dub together.... Or maybe mods in the future.

I think it's not the translation. It's the writing.
Translation can't do much wonders if the original script is bad to begin with. I was thinking if whatever was happening on the screen was somehow better worded in English, would that help the quality? I didn't think so.

To me it feels like they wanted to mix Game of Thrones with Final Fantasy (which I think is an interesting concept), except the writers are 10 times less talented, so it feels like a giant swing and miss.

This is all based on what I have seen so far in the demo. Not sure if things will get better in the full version, but I'm doubtful. I'm quite disappointed.

Even with my limited japanese knowledge i think that script was fitting in situations better than the eng mumbo jumbo so not only no one gave a ♥♥♥♥ to translate properly according to script thats being used. The eng one is going the forspoken route and its ass either way.

I hate the English dialogues so much. It's so cringy and tried too hard to be cool or edgy.

Like, that "you c0ck" line and the way they jump and kiss. It'd be cringe even in western films like Game of Thrones that they're trying to imitate. Imagine Yoshi-P and the devs of this game actually believed that it made their game look cool and appealing to the western audiences...

Having to read these garbage while playing with Japanese voices is impossible. Switching to Japanese voices + Japanese sub is the only way to fix.
