FINAL FANTASY XVI

When will SE make a final fantasy game that will rival 7?
Remember when many years ago, square enix said that they won't remake FF7 until they have made a modern final fantasy game that will rival 7. It seems they admitted defeat and went back on their words. I think the current square enix does not have the talent to make such a feat possible. This game cannot even be called final fantasy. This franchise has lost its direction so badly that it sucks thinking about it. What happened guys?!? How can a major RPG franchise fall so badly??

game is dope sry it’s not ur thing
dont feed the troll. go ask in the rebirth forum or what ever.
I mean, in terms of sales, XIV kills OG FF7, but yeah, I know MMO. I'm still trying to figure out how they sold 10mil of XV. I'm not even getting started on how much I despise that game, and I've beaten it at both release and the Royal edition. Out of the hundreds upon hundreds of games I've beat, it's one of three games out there I'll spend time bashing and not understanding how anybody thinks it's a quality title. XVI, while not a masterpiece in every respect, is fine.

There is hardly a world in XVI. They made 4 large zones and called it a day. I mean look back at older FF titles that were made for PS2 and 1. At that time, developers were very limited by hardware but they made huge world in every FF games. My first FF game was VIII back in 2001 and I was blown away by how huge the overworld was. Same thing in the PS2 titles like XII and X. XII's overworld was gigantic. But now in this present day and age, we are not limited by hardware power anymore but developers choose to make small tiny games. The overworld in this game is non existent. I don't understand if its laziness or if the new devs don't have equal talent like the devs of old.

Final Fantasy as a franchise meant something a decade ago. It meant huge world that is fully explorable, lots of playable characters, deep RPG character development. All of these have lost their meaning now.

If talking story, FF XVI, FF VIII, FF IX and FF VII are the best.

Well that didn't take long for you to just spout out something untrue. 1-6 is all empty tiles on a world map, 7-9 were all pre rendered overworld screens. All of these games lacked so much space that they relied on random encounters to fit in the monsters you needed to kill to level up.

The move to 3d in 10 still ment fixed camera angles and linear paths because of the system limitations.. again random encounters only.

12 opened up the world a bit but also had the worst battle system, magic was an idea that never got realized. 13 was probably more linear that 12, had non random encounters if you could avoid them, and had one chapter which was a token gesture to being a wide open plane but was just there for that chapter. 11 and 14 featured more open world.

That leaves 15 as the first true open world single player FF. I can't say it did a bad job either, I felt the story was the main failing in that game.

We get many new RPG games and some do open world, some do more linear stuff, players like both. So it would be an absolute folly to think FF16's non open world zones were a deal killer. It was a design choice for the game. I find the game is more about its story and its encounters. I want to say boss mechanics are more varied then any other of the single final fantasy games to date but it really only applies to ff15 and ff13-3, so not a large hurdle I know.

The worlds in OG 7,8, and 9 were not huge by any stretch of the imagination, especially 7. In the case of OG7, much of the "world exploration" was funneled with very little in the way of enemy variety. This is purely a nostalgia factor. I know this, because when I was younger I thought the same until replaying them more recently. Just try running from Costa del Sol to Mt. Corel. It's a tiny, tiny world that has very crude exploration. If you want exploration beyond the PS1 era, the only FF that fits the bill is XII. X is another linear funnel world. They were good at creating the illusion of a larger world, but make no mistake, it's really not very big.

I don't think they can because of the nostalgia factor for me.

Same here. I remember watching some show, E3 maybe? That showed that Xbox360 is getting FF13. I never regretted buying that console. It had such good games.

Never. Because your memories of ff7 are something than cannot be replicated. Game experiences are more than the games themselves. They are what we were when we played them and what the world was. So in that sense, the feeling of wonder, or however the game made you feel, will likely never be able to replicated due to.... us changing, and the world changing.

VIII, IX, X and XII are all better than VII so that's 4 games in my book.
