If you're playing everything correctly without a mistake every time, you're missing out on lots of extras, like how you can use Doom Blast on Devil Doom which I wasn't even aware of until I saw it on the internet.
For me it was his swiping attack in the final phase - took me a while to really commit the timing to memory, I was always moving towards the top/bottom of the screen and then would second guess my judgement, convince myself he was gonna reach me and change direction, and it was doing that which let him hit me. Embarrassing how long it took me to stop doing it every time, lol.
