Do the Sonic 06 stages make sense, plotwise?
I thought about this possible plot hole recently.

At the end of Sonic 06, aren't all the events from that game erased from happening, as in, erased from time? So how is it possible that stages from that game are present in the timeline of this game if it was all wiped out?

Brings into question how Silver is in this game and knows the gang as well.

Silver has been a burning question in my mind, it's like the writers for the series in general dont care he's from the future and just brings him in for fan fare. Doesn't really help him beat the Silver=Future Trunks allegations.

I just chalk it up to time eater stuff, cause I'm pretty sure it not only pulls from different timelines but also different spaces as well. This game did confirm that Mephiles is still around and all that blowing that flame out really did was cut him off from the timeline, so if Eggman ever finds out..

The ending of Sonic 2006 is pretty vague about what happened, but the Japanese version of Team Sonic Racing implies that Sonic remembers the events of 06 while Silver doesn't, so it seems like it didn't get erased completely.

As for Silver knowing everyone, it's probably just Sonic Team not wanting to do another introduction story for him. He probably showed up for some off-screen Eggman plot and reintroduced himself.

Pretty sure during the Mephiles boss fight, Mephiles says he owes much to Shadow. Shadow replies that he has no idea what he's talking about, to which Mephiles is shocked and goes "Did you forget about me again?!"

Sonic Generations still has a Sonic 06 stage way back in 2011, so it was never out of the question. Even if time was erased and their memories wiped, which the dialogue in the boss fight confirms, the universe still considers the events that took place regardless.

The events still happened, the timeline just readjusted. Mephiles says as much when he says he is going to be a part of the timeline again and Shadow doesn't know who he is.

Silver was re-introduced and can time travel.

I forget that series exists with how niche it can be compared to other titles.

But yeah, wondering if sega is gonna cook with Mephiles sometime later now that we know hes technically still alive.

The Sonic 2006 stage isn't really featured in the story. It's just kinda there. The boss of that section of the game isn't even related to Sonic Forces *or* Sonic 2006. Instead it's just Metal Overlord from Sonic Heroes. The gameplay and the story seem pretty well divorced so far aside from Black Doom peeking in to whisk you off to Radical Highway and taunt you here and there.

I heard a theory once that if eggman were to go back in time to the moment elise blows the flame and stops that from happening the sheer paradox would collapse all of time immediately, which is basically what happens anyway. In general, it's very possible eggman altered the timeline to "restore" '06's events. It lines up with shadow's story tho, since he says he doesn't remember kingdom valley and has no idea who mephiles is.

time eater is possibly a fragment of solaris this has been hinted at for a while.

you have to remember that solaris is a god of time.

Nice. Thanks for the comments. I don't have Shadow Generations yet, this is just some thing I thought about. Glad they remembered and made sense of it.

Yea pretty much all of the stages - and the stages in the sonic story - are there in a *symbolic* sense.

Well the way I think about it is even if it was erased from the timeline, the events still happened. Does that make sense?

I can accept that Sonic has glimmering memories about the events of 06 because he was literally one of the only two people present for Solaris' death.

I think the answer for Mephiles is honestly just, Solaris being wiped put Mephiles' very existence in a completely separate confined rift in time, which the Time Eater obviously re-opened in White Space. Even White Space tries to hide his existence by burying his gate underground.

I think it's kinda awesome from a story angle. Mephiles, being the mind of Solaris, was hell bent on becoming whole again so he could enslave all of time. Now? He's suffering for all eternity in a pocket of time he will never escape from. It's a pretty dark punishment but bro literally has "the Dark" as his title.
