Ignore the clown that is going to come in here complaining about "censorship."
The only real problem I can think of, is that it does throw a lot of characters at you but doesn't really explain how or why they're important. They're just...sonics friends and that's usually all they're portrayed as.
And even then, the story itself is easy to follow. The places he revisits aren't actually important to the plot at all, and aren't acknowledged outside maybe the first one, if you want to count it.
The story is simple but pretty good at telling you who is who, how they're important to Shadow, and why
even with all that said, generations is a good game to go into blindly. its one of the better sonic games.
it's not make or break, it's a good game all around and difficulty-wise a great starting point for a new player, the impact of the references will just lose a bit of their power
You know what was poor ? The original writing the one who rewrote Ian Flynn know what he's talking about and try to keep consistency with the previous games. The 2 og writers didn't example: how the ♥♥♥♥ Sonic forget green hill and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ chemical plant how do you forget about the factory who makes blue chemicals ?
It's like if you went to Chernobyl and come back 10 years later and don't recognize the place.
And yeah, Sonic Generations and Shadow Generations are the best starting games for new fans. They both have most popular levels remade from the games like Sonic 1-3 & Knuckles, Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, Sonic Heroes, Sonic'06, Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colors. Bosses, two gameplays in SG, story recap in ShG (what he was doing in the games he participated) and so on.
Paying nearly full price for basically DLC, is a waste.
