For those thinking the "censorship" is just about Rouge...
The whole of Sonic Generations' script got altered to scrub anything terminally-online people would deem "offensive" (e.g. Amy's flirting, Knuckles' comment on Classic Sonic's weight, Classic Eggman calling Modern Eggman "crazy", etc.). And where things get even more jarring is certain scenes being poorly reanimated to replace scenes those same people would find "problematic" too (e.g. Sonic putting his hand on Amy's face, Amy pushing Knuckles into a tree, etc.). And yes, the one thing people love to use to discount all these complaints... Rouge getting edited to the point it's laughably obvious as to why the changes were made to her and only her.

And here's the problem with everything I mentioned...
A good remaster is suppose to bring a game forward and simply make it both run more efficiently while both fixing out years-long issues and maybe adding some special extra content (cut content or brand new). What it's NOT suppose to do is go in and completely alter a game's story, both dialogue and actual scenes, to try and appease a vocal minority of people who likely aren't even gonna buy the game to begin with. On top of that, the newly-redubbed voices sound even more flat than before and make the flow of things even more awkward knowing what came before. All these changes just so happen to line up with "politically-correct" activism, because those are the most egregious and noticeable changes.

This sucks for me a lot, because I DID want to play the new Shadow campaign. But because I'm now forced to pay up for a botched and censored version of a game I love from 2011 along with it, the money I would drop for the right to play Shadow Generations also gets counted on the Sonic Generations "remaster". I'm not the only one who feels this way, and no... it's not because of "grifters" or "right-wingers"... it's because I see how obvious these changes were and how poorly replaced they were. I didn't need some YouTube personality to tell me something was wrong, I already sensed it from the moment I noticed SEGA not showing anything off on the remaster side of things.

I'm not sorry for calling this stuff out. It needs to be addressed because this is both historical revisionism and unintegral artistic malpractice on what should've just been a straightforward remaster. I'm not saying the Q.O.L changes such as additional save slots and the Chao missions are bad, those are fine (and I imagine Shadow Generations is a good time, but the Rouge "changes" still plagues it too - just need to say that). What I and others take issue with is the fact none of these changes were warranted, much less needed. And all the said changes just so happen to line up with trends the gaming industry in the West is doing now with remasters and remakes.

Now I have a more fleshed out explanation for why people do not like the "changes" and why I think the script being thrown out was unwarranted (not even Sonic Colors Ultimate got that treatment). OK, Peace.

According to normal users here, OG Gens in this package is worse off even before you get to the censorship. It's apparently much buggier, nothing of note was done to improve the overall experience beyond save slots, game largely looks the same as its 32-bit original graphically-speaking, and the Drop Dash makes Modern Sonic wonkier to control for most it seems. Once you add the noticeable censorship, the package immediately becomes less attractive.

The fact the "ancient" 32-bit version isn't as buggy paired with the other fact the game is still unedited makes it the superior way to play OG Gens still. I think SEGA made a mistake in trying to ship Shadow Generations like this, because now people are both confused and angry.
Maybe you should've started with that instead of immediately going for the censorship route. Because you weren't clear on your intentions to begin with.

I don't think your initial post here mentioned ANYTHING about it being a carbon copy of the original game to begin with, so I assumed your entire focus was on the censorship and nothing else.
It being a carbon copy with censorship now needlessly forced upon it is a bad thing, especially when the original does nothing to warrant censorship in the first place. I didn't know that wasn't clear from the onset.

And you sprung immediately for the "historical revisionism" argument instead of clarifying that it was a literal copy of the old game.

It seemed like you made a mountain out of an anthill.
Because it's NOT a literal copy. They went in and rewrote the whole thing and reanimated particular scenes to try and seem "progressive" for some reason. Just port the original game to 64-bit, do some QoL updates, and maybe add something special and new for returning players to do... but no, they had to go in commit historical revisionism because we can't have just a straightforward remaster anymore.
It's not censorship, it's governments turning everyone against each other so we bicker amongst ourselves blaming each other for everything, the old divide and conquer routine.

Then the same governments go on about getting rid of the woke censorship (that they created) if you vote for them.

It's the oldest trick in the book.

I still don't know about it.
BIC used to be informational, then they did that...
No record of the completely rewritten fanfiction of a "story" we got now with needlessly censored scenes. Yes, her getting censored is part of the issue, but that's a different matter of censorship entirely from what I'm bothered by mostly.
I thought we learned from gamergate never to trust supposed journalists.
I do agree with you that these adjustments were really unnecessary, but blaming the much-feared "political correctness" as the cause of all evil because "you can't enjoy your game" when you declared to own the original from 2011 and so avoid all this tantrum, this is the behavior of people who are chronically online

Well what about someone like me who doesn't have the original? I actually was going to pre-order this and I still haven't removed it from a switch wish list cuz I have not had time. It irks me to know that there is censorship while I'm not entirely sure it's political in nature and not just incredibly misguided, it certainly is and easy target to point your finger at given how a lot of things lately have been for political reasons as openly stated by those making changes. This game it doesn't appear so much so.
don't worry, you'll live
With the mention of Sonic Colours Ultimate, this might be somewhat of a hot take but I honestly do think that game should've had some re-writes to the original script that Ultimate didn't get as there were a lot of really bad jokes in that game's narrative that either don't fit the character or setting, or just fall flat for various reasons.

As an example of what I mean, when Eggman announces that nothing will stop him once he harness the Hyper-Go-On power from the wisps, Sonic shows up calling Eggman "nothing". That I thought was fine up until Orbot literally explains the joke to the viewer like they insult our intelligence. Either cut that part out so the joke lands or rewrite it to not ruin it. Something like "Not you, but the deep vastness of space that is nothing will be the only thing that'll stop him.". Maybe not the best rewrite, but it was what I had come up with and I probably gotten a bit more laugh out of that line compared to what we got and would bounce off the characters' personalities a lot better.

Other parts of the story, such as Yacker's introduction scene, I feel should've been much closer to the DS version's script which fit the tone and character of the series a lot better than the original Wii script, perhaps even adding new scenes that show Sonic's friends in the theme park who also showed up in the DS game.

However, as others have mentioned, Colours Ultimate was before Frontiers released and Sonic Team realised that people enjoyed the world building and lore that game had, and was outsourced to another studio who probably didn't have the resources or foresight to change the story. They didn't even update the cutscenes to match Ultimate's aesthetics so they clash with the original Wii visuals.
Sonic Colors has always meant to be a self contained story.
Don't let the wokeys gaslight you OP, it's not "alt right" to use your own eyes and notice what they are doing to our entertainment.

And if you want this to change, stop giving money to games that support this kind of behaviour, no matter how much you anticipated it.

Personally i've wishlisted Dragon Quest III remaster when it got announced back then but quickly moved it to the ignore list once i've learnt of how censored and butcher it was by Square Enix. Don't give money to people that active hate and despise you.
This goes on my ignore list. Thanks for saving me money, Sega!
I was looking for a reason to not buy this remake. Also, the original version runs fine and has native 3D support so I'll stick with that version.
