Overblown rim lighting needs to die as a gaming trend along with chromatic aberration, film grain, depth of field, motion blur, and bloom. I'm probably forgetting one but you get the gist, oh and 30 fps like wtf its 2024.

Motion blur is probably the only one that works well in a sonic game.

You don't need motion blur in sonic games

Your eyes come with motion blur pre installed it's such a useless game feature.

If done right then object blur can be artistic but there is no reason ever for camera blur. My eyes are do what they do and I don't need games trying to simulate what my eyes are already doing. I will say Sonic games tend to be more tame with the motion blur blurring everything but still I'd rather not have it than have it.

This man just despises post processing.

I don't despise post processing itself I despise developers that over use it like when I said overblown in my post. I love bloom in my high fantasy games because it makes it feel more magical, I like vignetting and depth of field when it creates a specific effect for a specific situation but what I don't like is when we end up stuff like this that looks like a vomit inducing drug trip because they're trying to make it look extra shiny "next gen" (17:36 into the video to get right to it): https://youtu.be/3YvPMB7tLaE?si=1Z_WNnyLx-J845iF&t=1056

Remembered another one, who actually likes the screen being vignetted all the time? I want to see all of my screen I don't need the edges and corners blacked out.

idk if shadow warrior is a good example. Chromatic abberation and heavy blur defines its cyberpunk esq aesthetic. The same way bloom goes great with fantasy games.

You dont like the developers intended aesthetics. Thats fine, but its not being forced here. Its just part of the vibe.

The first one didn't have all that overblown stuff and looked much better but to their credit its all optional which is how every game should be.

your eyes do not have "pre installed motion blur" your eyes do have problems processing fast information, but this is not the purpose of motion blur in games. its used to convey speed and motion
motion blur is purely artistic and is one of the fundimental parts of why the boost games feel fast.
I think the decision to include it for this game is bc shadow is so dark that he needs to stand out from the background, for visual clarity.

I say that, but I disable it myself lol. I just see the reasoning.

Is it a setting or a mod to disable? I do see the reasoning now that you mention it haha.

Might be something in hedgemodmanager for it, but there's a bunch of mods on gamebanana that reduce or remove the rim lighting.

One part in the game where the rim lighting gets outta control is the Mephiles fight. everything is like glowing. Mephiles is all yellow when he should have a purple aura to match his colors and attacks.

Thank you!! During the Mephiles fight shadow looks like he's emitting light and it looks so out of place.
