While I see your point, I disagree on the basis that the other doom powers just feel REALLY good to control, better than ANY wisp appearance.
The spears and doom Blast are just a press and hold of a button respectively, surf starts automatically but you’re in control the whole time, and wing is functionally identical to super shadow
The pace isn't slowed down to a crawl when used (except Doom Wing, but that's closer to Super Sonic than it is the wisps) and are used a lot more often. Even better is that they're actually used in 3D whereas the only time wisps were ever used in 3D was the Cyan laser and even then it was incredibly situational when it was used in 3D.
It also doesn't help that some of the wisps control terribly, especially the Spike Wisp that also made its way to Sonic Generations, and makes the Doom Morph feel like an absolute dream to control by comparison.
Yea thats what I mean its not like “DRILL! BOOMBOOOMchinkBOOMBADOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBchinkADOOMBOOMBOOM “PWAASHHHH!”” BOOMBOOMBOOMBADOOMchiniBOOM” “Press A to continue) for 5 minutes straight anymore.
Also, air dodge?
Mechanic where you press the sidestep buttons while in the air to do a small dodge. Game never tells you about it but it's mighty useful for the Mephiles boss hard mode, because it lets you easily avoid the first phase. I don't think it has any application outside of there though.
And wow, I didn't know about the air dodge, thanks for the info! I thought only Doom Surf had that mechanic.
