Isn't the game a bit too gimmicky?
I mean the Doom Power are basically Black Arms version of the Wisps (yes, it's mechanically similar) yet I feel that it tries to bring gimmicks again in a game.

The only one I really consider gimmicky is the doom morph because of its controls and how its only useful situationally

While I see your point, I disagree on the basis that the other doom powers just feel REALLY good to control, better than ANY wisp appearance.

The spears and doom Blast are just a press and hold of a button respectively, surf starts automatically but you’re in control the whole time, and wing is functionally identical to super shadow

Nope, the game wasn't long enough for them to be gimmicky.

I disagree . Surf feels super slow since you cannot boost. It's incredibly boring. It doesn't "feel REALLY good" to control at all. It simply exists.

Funny that you mention the wisps because I think these Doom powers are 100x better!
The pace isn't slowed down to a crawl when used (except Doom Wing, but that's closer to Super Sonic than it is the wisps) and are used a lot more often. Even better is that they're actually used in 3D whereas the only time wisps were ever used in 3D was the Cyan laser and even then it was incredibly situational when it was used in 3D.

It also doesn't help that some of the wisps control terribly, especially the Spike Wisp that also made its way to Sonic Generations, and makes the Doom Morph feel like an absolute dream to control by comparison.

Unlike wisps, most of these feel very natural to pull off.

Just wanted to mention that Hover and Negative (lmao steam censors its actual name) wisps were also used in 3D.

Feel obligated to share that Surf actually can boost! If you press the button as you hit the water you instantly launch to top speed. It's a legitimate mechanic, but the game never tells you about it (much like the air dodge when not using any Doom powers).

I knew this, but that isn't the same as a normal boost. This just gets you to top speed. I want to boost beyond top speed.

Also, air dodge?

Not trying to be rude but boosting is just reaching top speed at the push of a button, so what Surf has is a boost is it not?

Mechanic where you press the sidestep buttons while in the air to do a small dodge. Game never tells you about it but it's mighty useful for the Mephiles boss hard mode, because it lets you easily avoid the first phase. I don't think it has any application outside of there though.

Not trying to be rude but if you've paid any attention, you'd know that boosting actually goes faster than your max speed when you aren't boosting.

And wow, I didn't know about the air dodge, thanks for the info! I thought only Doom Surf had that mechanic.

Doom powers feel like they flow with the game rather then against it like the wisps did.
