Good place / bait to catch Salmon?
Chapter 8. Apparently I need one to get the King Fish in the lake next to Bose, but I have no idea where to get one (or more just in case)

I always got mine at the Lakeshore Inn. Dace and river bugs seem to work. I'm sure there are other options as well.

I haven't extensively tested this, but using different rods does seem to make a difference between what you catch. I tried getting Salmon at the Grancel Castle moat, and I noticed when using River Bug's as bait that I was catching a lot more Salmon using the Pricis Heart than the Aqua Master.

This is probably because their may be less fish while using Pricis Heart than Aqua Master, reducing the total fish pool.

I am late but yes, every rod has it's own list of fish to catch. Big, small, medium, kinda like that. Master rod can catch any fish but this means that you have a bigger variety of fish that you can catch meaning getting a specific one is harder. For a casual run it doesn't really matter but if you want knowing which rod does what is quite useful. For example in Ruan, you can buy a certain rod at the casino and find one a top of the tower (inside a chest).
After that you can go to the light house and catch a certain fish of which I can't remember the name. After that you can go to the manoria in and use that fish as bait to catch a really big one called Gigangora. This fish is really unique in that it has 4 items that it can give you.

1: Tiger Hearts, one of the best physical accessories.
2: Crimson Eye, one of the best magical accessories.
3: Proxy Puppet, you die you get brought back with max hp and cp unless I am mistaken. There are 2 puppets so I sometimes confuse them.
4: A useless ingreadient.

The fish also sells for like a 10000 mira which is really useful as you can buy sepith in the second last chapter of the game.

It's an amazing fish though and the fact that you can get it in chapter 1 is just simply amazing. The game rewards you for going out of your way to explore (unlike in CS fishing) with some of the best accessories in the game. And when I say some of the best, I mean it. They only physical and magical accessories that are better are the orb things you can get which do the same thing as Tiger Hearts and Crimson eyes but without lowering your other stats (tiger reduces your magical damage and crimson does the same for physical damage but it doesn't really matter considering you build a character to be either a mage or a physical attacker)

If I remember correctly the rods you can get are:

1: In the tower of Ruan inside a chest.
2: You can buy from the casino. (Ruan)
3: Inside a chest in Zeiss (you know the fields)
4: The Wife NPC who started up fishing as a hobby just as a F you to his husband who was neglecting her in the past (Grancel) (Chapter 3)
5: Reward for Bracer ranking.
6: Reward for a fishing quest I think. (Rolent chapter) You know the one where you are asked to find all of Rolent's fishing spots.
7: Remember the old man who goes to fishing all the time and runs his wife up the wall? Yeah talk to his wife, then go find him in resort place. After that go back and report back to his wife and she will give you his prized rod which is by far the best one for big fishes. (Chapter 8) Keep in mind this is not a side quest.
