So why does anyone say this is better than Misao? (obvious spoilers)
Yes I know I don't own Corpse Party on Steam but I did get it on the 3DS (for an extra $15 for a whopping total of $30 >_>) and ultimately I felt pretty disappointed by the experience. The puzzles were extremely limited, a number of the characters felt superfluous and were only there to amp up the creepiness factor and body count (Morishige, Yui, and Mayu are prime examples) and the game simply explains waaaaaay too much. Which would be fine if things were internally consistent but accounts keep changing. Why does Sachiko help Yuka escape Kizami? Why was Naomi able to go so far as to COMMIT MURDER DUE TO DARKENING and then somehow forget all of it? For that matter why are there so many arbitrary things that can influence whether or not I end up on a bad end? WHY DOES YUKA NOT PEE IN THE EMPTY BUCKET WE KNOW WAS FILLED WITH PISS IN EARLIER CHAPTERS?

It felt like it should've been a visual novel rather than an RPG maker game. The narrative (flawed as it was) is somehow still its greatest strength and what got the most focus, it feels. And it also feels like that in trying to expand the story they bit off more than they can chew... and that just got worse as the sequels piled on.

And I keep finding myself comparing it to Misao, which was obviously inspired by it but just feels like it does everything so much better. Yes it is shorter but it felt more focused and compact. You still had the Unknown Factor what with Novella/Library and the mad scientist, but your objectives were clear. The characters left a bigger impact on me even though many of them had a fraction of the screentime as the ones in Corpse Party, Aki and Misao herself especially.

Much to my surprise though, it seems a lot of people prefered Corpse Party over Misao though. I'm not so much angry though as simply curious about why. So what is it about CP that has appeal to you?

You kind of already answered your own question. The story and narration.

That and I have this crazy idea that one can like more than one thing and comparing to something else isn't always an intelligent practice unless you're looking for games to play BECAUSE you liked something.
