MONSTER SUGGESTION - SOMETHING LIKE THE WEEPING ANGEL
Ever seen a Weeping Angel from Doctor Who?
They are a race of humanoid aliens, who when looked at, turn to stone. When not being looked at, then the angel can move.
I know they won't be able to do the whole weeping angel model for obvious copyright reasons, but still.
The angel wouldn't be able to move if looked at, but if in a dark room, where it was harder to see, it could have limited maneuverability, as long as a flashlight wasn't shined directly onto it. If not looked at, it could move extremely quickly, but as soon as seen, it stops moving.
So yeah, thats my idea. Im not good with words, so I am just going to leave this how it is, feel free to improve on my suggestion.

I think the problem with this is that someone could just stand guard and stare at the monster the entire time while everyone else just goes and finds everything.

Yeah, thats the problem I thought as well, unless they impliment a battery drain on the flashlights

This was the first idea I had after playing the game. Scp containment breach has a similar creature that only moves when it is not being viewed. They could resolve the problem of people constantly staring at it by implementing a blink meter (scp containment breach utilized this system). Staring at the creature is only possible for a few seconds at a time before the player blinks. They could set a timer for how long the creature can be stared at before it teleports to a random location. Heck they could expand multiplayer and have 5 creatures to four players so a lock down is not possible. Perhaps one player shifting between multiple monsters / statues that asre not locked down. My original thought on this concept turned the creature into an in game prop or furniture while being observed so it would be harder to tell. Also it would be hilarious to be stalked by a chair / clock. I think there would be several ways to cleverly I implement a creature like this, and am glad I wasn't the only one to think of it!

My friend just suggested, that there is multiple statues that spawn on the map, and the angel can switch between them, eliminating the fact that someone could camp the statue and it wouldnt be able to move. The amount of statues that spawn would be equal to the amount of players, so then it would be impossible for the players to win if they were camping the statues. It would add a level of scariness, as the survivors wouldn't know which one was the possessed one.

Maybe your battery drains while looking at the Weeping Angel?
That way you can't spam it.

We had a idea like this, where the monster change between statue and normal form, I thing this can be discuss.

now i can get behind this idea however the problem is they can set up a guard on the monster to keep it frozen one way around this is to give it the ability to swap between material and incorpreal form that way survivors cant be aholes and keep the monster pinned. another way around this would be to have multiple monsters of this species to swap between. like a person above said there can be a short timer for how long the monster can be stared at before it can be released as well so there are a few ways around this problem.

Two thoughts for how you could make this work:
Either
1) As Pcactus mentioned, have multiple monsters, or rather - bodies. Can switch to a random body every so many seconds (5-10?), so that players can't totally lock you down.
or
2) Make it a timer for the monster to go between monster form and statue form. Make the timing random so that survivors can't predict how long they have before it changes again. Place the monster in the room where the survivors start (so that it has to follow locked door rules, and won't be stuck waiting for players to get to it) with a rule that it will not change form until at least a certain number of doors have been unlocked, and for the benefit of random games, put the statue in the starting room no matter what monster is selected so survivors are actually guessing about what monster they're up against.

Either way - can't see or hear survivors while in statue form, but can still hear traps and door sounds and stuff (no phantom outlines of players, though), and make it have a snarling breath when it comes to life so that survivors hear it as it gets close.

i dont agree with this it would be impossible for the monster to find the survivors if the only clue they have is a trap noise make it so when its not a statue it can see their flashlights and bodies your not gonna be doing anything when your a statue anyways. sense the weeping angels in dr who can see you clearly even in dark its what makes them so effecient at killing or indirectly killing.

I don't think you understand. If you can see them when you're a statue, then you can just come to life when they're right next to you and kill them before they have a chance to react. That would be unfair to the survivors. Especially if there are multiple statues that *could* be you, there has to be something preventing you from just springing on them when you have a guaranteed kill. Otherwise it would be frustrating, not scary.

You're forgetting that the monster is up against other players - everybody needs to have a fair chance in order for people to want to play. It wouldn't be impossible, because clearly the lurker already does it. In fact, people seem to have more fun against the lurker than against the phantom, and the lurker can't see anything when it's in spirit form. It just keeps guessing where the survivors will be.
