Why so religious?
I'm enjoying this game so far but am really being turned off by the constant religous language. ("I'll pray for you" "Praise heaven!" for example) I just want to play a fun JRPG without the preaching please.

Agreed.
I'm on Chapter 2 now and there have only been MINOR religious bits.

Not here to change anyones opinions, and since I seem to be in the minority (at least among posters) I'll leave this thread be after a brief clarification of my position.

To the point made repeatedly that this is a fictitious religion, I haven't played alot yet (still in the prologue) but there has been ZERO reference to any non-christian aspects of the religion in game. I believe the people who have played more than me that there will be, but so far it has come across as a thinly veiled Catholicism.

As for not letting it bother me, I wont, I have enjoyed the game so far and plan to keep playing. I only created this thread to raise the issue for the fans and devs (I've seen them post regularly on this forum so I know they check in sometimes) that some players would prefer that nearly every character they encounter not reference their faith in some way. People (at least where I come from) view their faith and religious beliefs as private, so having such frequent references to it in dialogue seems "preachy" IMO.

Japan in general in games and anime when they portray Christians and churches they are almost always Catholic, I don't know the reason for this but it could be because It is one of the oldest of the Christian denomination and the one that stands out the most because of customs, art, buildings, etc.
The ingame religion plays an important part of the Trails world, they have people mention it and spread it around and such so you get to know more about the world and religion without making you sit down and read a huge wall of text about it.

So just play the game and try to enjoy it :100percent: :D

They're just translating what was there already from the Japanese dialogue, unless you want a heavily censored translation. Furthermore the uses of religion are in a positive light without any ill intent, they're simply expressing gratitude most of the time. People use whatever they worship religously in daily conversations, be it when suprised or angry, all the time and no one bats an eye at them. In this game's case it's just informing you about itself to help develop the world and its people(How else are you going to learn about it?). I didn't notice a single situation where religion was the solution or anyone saying they were somehow superior because of their religious beliefs. Informative? Yes. Preaching? Not at all.

There is one big BIG reference to a non-christian aspect of Aidos. It's a godess, constantly refered as a "she". So, yeah...fictional.

The more you play into the series, the less it will feel like Christianity.

The church is important in the series, in later games more so. However, it is important as a powerful institution rather than a spiritual body. The third game features a priest and a nun as a main character, and later games delve into the history of the church. The church does play a role in FC still, of course. So it's important to remind players of its existence by injecting religious speech- however as you play, you'll find that the church in this game is framed from a political view rather than a faith-based view. Later games too- you don't fight God as the jRPG trope goes, but you learn about the Church's role in the history and current events of Liberl. The important things you need to keep in mind about the church are where it interjects into politics and which side it supports in FC.

So yeah. The game is not concerned with feeding us dogma, it's more concerned with creating a realistic and complicated society based on a fantasy Europe. And to do this, it uses an important institution styled after an institution from real Europe, a Church.

Calling it right now: A topic is gonna pop up in the near future, where someone is gonna call Kevin a pedophile.

Or it'll be written in a negative review, just like with Olivier.

And a topic about Ries being a glutton.

To the OP, it's just a game. Forget about any real world implications and have fun.

I've seen a lot of people complain about that kinda thing with Agate and Tita too. I just want to knock some sense into these people.
