What else is Japan hiding?
I just found out this game was released in 2004. It took a while to make it English, but this type of quality back then would have been even more amazing. So it has me thinking... what amazing games is Japan hiding behind a language barrier at this very moment?

I'm looking for either footage or links to some of the best Japanese rpgs put out in the last year or so. They don't need to be English, I just want to know what we have to look forward to. How is the RPG market doing down there and how far has it come?

Judging purely from Trails versus old school, it's definitely making advances.

You may be surprised to learn that not all is peachy is world of JRPG creation, and Falcom recently even had to stop making PC games because they just didn't sell well.

Let's hope that the newly-found success of their PC games in the west makes them reconsider this decision.

Not sure if I'd call 5 years ago "recently". Falcom closing down their PC department is mostly due to them primarily developing for the Japanese market and Japan has trouble seeing PCs as actual gaming machines rather than devices that you use to do office work on that also happen to run Visual Novels and MMORPGs.

Otaku pandering, Compile Heart, Idea Factory and moe crap...

Sure, huge advancements!

Even Falcom is not an exception to this rule, you should see the character designs in Sen, Sen II and Tokyo Xanadu. It's all Otaku pandering, cause that's what sells.

You are forgetting that the game market in Japan keeps getting smaller and smaller, and developers are less confident in anything that implies risks. Plus Falcom has always used anime style, they are just getting along with the times.

Although I really wish they could change their art style, FC Evolution looks so bland compared to the original. And sometimes Joshua looks like a blue-haired adventurer...

Some anime styles are good, some are not. Having a bunch of girls wearing miniskirts in a military school is not something I would praise.

It's stupid. There's no argument to be made. Hell, you can even look up their skirts from a certain camera angle, and sure enough, you can see their panties.

Did Falcom always do that too?

I don't think Falcom fully closed to the pc market, they still let other companies make pc ports for them and they still release those ports in japan.

lol wasn't that a bug that was later fixed?

Anyways Thors isn't even a military school. It's essentially a private high school where students receive basic military training outside their normal curriculum. The students there aren't part of the Erebonian military and many of them don't enter the military after graduation. So the miniskirts are (....kind of....sort of....?) justified.

Here's hoping that a certain blonde idiot will be the protag of the next game. A grown-up man in his late twenties as the protag of a modern JRPG. One can always dream...

I agree that there are excess amounts of otaku pandering and moe crap nowadays. This isn't limited to only video games, but it seems to be a trend in the entire Japanese anime culture in general in the last few years.

Different colored panties for each female character is now a bug...?

Anyway, I didn't meant to say school, it's an academy.

And before someone else says anything... Yes, I know, Falcom has released erotic adult games before.

Again, that doesn't make it justified either.

I know, I'm not really angry about it or anything. I just thought it was important to point out.

Because that VR trend that's going to happen soon... Japanese developers is gonna focus a lot of their resources on that, if it becomes successful on the market.

That would be not be a good thing at all.

I was talking about the "dirty" camera angle, not that.

Anyways, I wasn't trying to justify anything. I was just being sarcastic.

I know, I know... I was reffering to other people.

I guess people don't read all the messages or just prefer to read some parts, but i already explained why that's happening. They have to pander hard to the big consumers. Falcom is no exception, plus they tried to reach a wider audience with Sen. Hell, you can see that happening already with Celceta.

Irony and no.

It's good to know you support this! Way to go fanboy!
Domi Apr 13, 2015 @ 1:46pm
You know, being nice to others doesn't hurt. You are starting to act a bit full of yourself, and I'm saying this not as an insult, but rather as "feedback". Calling me a fanboy because I'm explaining this (even if I said before I don't like it at all) doesn't make any sense, I don't even know why did you have to say that.

I think most model maker makes a complete model and that includes underwear regardless if gamecode will allow it or not. The anime industry can be used to increase japanese population so its fine for them. I don't think anything has changed it just became "3D" you can do the same thing even with old games, Graphics just doesen't warrant the quality we have today.
