Yes these were beautiful.

When Falcom made them the first time.

Now they just feel souless and full of people with the same faces.

I don't see it, though I see that complaint a lot. Are we looking at the same pictures?

We are. These images are all reproductions of high res artwork that was put out by Falcom years ago. For some reason they felt they had to reproduce them and the art simply lacks a lot of the character of older versions.

Basically, the new art direction was to really homogenize the anime style to fit the more modern trends in looks. Overall? It's not terrible. However, it's also very... normalized, a lot of the soul that went into the original work got wiped. And yeah, the faces are so similar now they mostly look like one person is cosplaying most of the cast.

That's a little extreme, isn't it? The art direction looks pretty similar to Sen no Kiseki (and to some extent Ys Seven, Celcetta, or Tokyo Xanadu).

I like the old artwork more as well but it doesnt look like we'll be getting anything new in that style.

Personally I prefer the old artwork better because I came to like the characters with that. For me the new art feels soulless.
Pretty sure the new fans will like it but I won't be buying it that's for sure.

It's just simply complaints from people who are allergic to change. It's a matter of opinion and tastes, but I also think it's just more complaining from people who constantly look at the past in rose tinted glasses. There's nothing wrong with the new or old as they're a form of expression within the context of the time period that they inhabited. If anything, modern art has become more detailed, more defined and definitely allows for even more subtle qualities with expression and form due to the advances in technology.

I love how you start by saying it's people who are allergic to change, then admit it's a matter of opinion and tastes. Wanna try that again without insulting anyone who doesn't happen to agree with your tastes? :P

And... no... detail and expression are not magically enhanced by technology. It's the artists abilities that bring those things out. Van Gogh didn't have photoshop yet still managed to paint some of the most expressive works of art ever made. We really don't need to be told that new = better, especially when that's just your opinion.

Estelle: "KYAAAAAAH!"
Joshua: "It's not that big a deal, stop screaming!"

I like the older version of the artwork, it looks like some real effort went into it, I'd love to able to draw like that. I prefer artwork that was drawn by hand. Art done by a machine just lacks that feeling in my opinion.

I definitely prefer the older version (just my opinion), seems like they changed it to keep the art consistent between all the evo versions? Did the same person do the art in FC/SC/3rd to the crossbell games?
rzhao01 2015 年 6 月 14 日 下午 8:48
The artist was definitely changed from the Sora trilogy to the crossbell games. IIRC crossbell was done by Enami Katsumi, but I don't remember who it was for FC/SC/3rd.

I feel like the new style works well for the games design with them in mind, but every time I see crossbell art for the Sora trilogy characters they look really wierd.

I think the pervy scenes added to the Evolution games bother me more than anything

Don't worry, it'll be Japan only Vita exclusive for a long time to come. Too bad because I'd buy it just for the improved combat, along with dat arrange. https://youtu.be/Qnm5asQPxWY

The stone faces too. New art just feels so lifeless.

Like what are Joshua and Agate looking at? Just blank expressionless stares
