Is this game slow burn?

Not really.. First Chapter is a slow burn and my least favorite of the entire series.

The whole game. The first Sky game is often referred to as FC: First Chapter.

It gets more interesting. Early chapters introduce the world and characters; later chapters use that foundation to create real threats and mysteries. You just have to be patient to earn the payoff.

For Trails in general, and for this game in particular, you have to become interested in the characters and world, since the plot does take quite a while to build up. The extent to which you develop such an interest is a mayor factor in your enjoyment of the games.

You know, maybe you're right. This is my 1st jrpg after all. Maybe they just aren't for me.

First Chapter and Second Chapter were originally one game cut up into two halves.

It's a very slow burn because the fast burn is in Chapter 2. But it's very hard to follow Chapter 2 if you don't play Chapter 1.

As the first game, it's definitely the slowest burn in the entire Trails franchise. For that reason, it's the characters and writing which has to carry it early on.

However it starts to pick up around the climax of FC Chapter 2, and the second half of FC Chapter 3 is when the pieces start coming together and everything starts moving faster.

The game feels like a teenage drama. Where the female teen complains about how awful and annoying other characters are. Then she puts on a smile and everyone says she's full of sunshine, even though she complains ALL the time.

Lucky me because I also just started playing this because during a sale I bought all 3 Trails, Zero and Azure. I'm about 15 hours in and I'm having a lot of fun. But I grew up with jrpgs in the 90s so I'm very used to this type of game and formula. This game in particular gives me really strong Grandia vibes, story, characters and combat. Although the battles feel too slow sometimes.
