If you actually played this game to the end and SC you'd see there are no similarities.
And Joshua being similar to Kirito?
Please...
Don't make me spoil some of the more heavy plot points.
Estelle is also nothing like Asuna.
Regardless of whether SAO came out in 2002 or not the developers of this game actually based Joshua and Estelle off two characters from a previous Legend of Heroes. Mainly because that game was the directors most favorite of the series and he took a lot of inspiration from it when making this game.
I can guarantee you 100% there are no similarities.
Who were in turn clones of the lively/tomboyish Éclair and quiet/reserved Armbrust of Kiddy Grade.
And who were in turn clones of the tomboyish Wanda and shy Arnold from the Magic School Bus.
Clearly.
You're really threatening to spoil the game for me because you don't like what I have to say? Mature.
No, no, I'm threatening to spoil the game because you're wrong. You're making judgements based off shallow experiences with this game. Which completely ruins your point.
Edit - Wait, I forgot
TWO YEARS WORTH OF SEMEN MADE A GLOPPING NOISE AS IT FLOWED ENDLESSLY INTO ASUNA.
If not then how can you be so sure? Because from where I'm standing, everything about Joshua/Estelle is a Kirito/Asuna ripoff. But I'm not going to threaten to spoil SAO because I'm not a little kid.
I'm pretty certain a lot of us have actually. As a result, many of us really do think that you're grasping at straws.
Afair, it was 4-5 years in the making, so yeah, Trails in the Sky was out way before SAO.
Also yes, SAO was first published in 2002 as a webnovel, but without character designs or anything, also it had no real popularity whatsoever until 2007ish when the author submitted Accel World.
Check your facts. Thank you.
Also: I played all of the Kiseki series AND read all of SAO (well until Alicitation at least, I just couldn't take it anymore)
And I just can't see where you're basing off your similarities. Even IF SAO had been around before, it hardly invented dual wielding characters...
And I just CAN'T see where Asuna - the most two dimensional, boring female waifu character in recent history - is ANYTHING like strong, boyish and (imo) interesting Estelle.
"I'm gonna bash a game's two main characters because I know next to nothing about them, and they're physically similar to Kirito and Asuna in a strange way! And this game seems popular so I'll say something totally senseless about it, comparing it to a really overrated series like SAO! Ha, who's the boss now?!"
Yeah, right, I laughed pretty hard.
