The main characters are Kirito/Asuna clones
Pretty good game, but does anyone else feel like this is a SAO clone?

Joshua is a direct ripoff of Kirito from the personality, character design, dual wieldig swords, etc. and Estelle is an Asuna ripoff.

Not a bad game but some originality would be nice.

All the people saying SAO started in 2009 lol...

Guys, SAO has been around in novel form for a long time and it's very obvious that Trails in the sky took a ton of inspiration from Kirito & Asuna.

If you actually played this game to the end and SC you'd see there are no similarities.
And Joshua being similar to Kirito?
Please...
Don't make me spoil some of the more heavy plot points.

Estelle is also nothing like Asuna.
Regardless of whether SAO came out in 2002 or not the developers of this game actually based Joshua and Estelle off two characters from a previous Legend of Heroes. Mainly because that game was the directors most favorite of the series and he took a lot of inspiration from it when making this game.
I can guarantee you 100% there are no similarities.

Nonsense. These characters are clones of the adventurous Allison Whittington and bookish Wilhelm Schultz of Allison & Lillia.

Who were in turn clones of the lively/tomboyish Éclair and quiet/reserved Armbrust of Kiddy Grade.

And who were in turn clones of the tomboyish Wanda and shy Arnold from the Magic School Bus.

Clearly.

You're really threatening to spoil the game for me because you don't like what I have to say? Mature.

No, no, I'm threatening to spoil the game because you're wrong. You're making judgements based off shallow experiences with this game. Which completely ruins your point.

Also, the orange/blue color scheme is clearly based on the pairing of Teana Lanster and Subaru Nakajima from Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS. Which is where Portal got inspiration from.

Not in the slightest, as Estelle and Joshua actually have character and personality, unlike Kirito and Asuna.

Edit - Wait, I forgot

TWO YEARS WORTH OF SEMEN MADE A GLOPPING NOISE AS IT FLOWED ENDLESSLY INTO ASUNA.

I'll turn around on you, have you read all of SAO?

If not then how can you be so sure? Because from where I'm standing, everything about Joshua/Estelle is a Kirito/Asuna ripoff. But I'm not going to threaten to spoil SAO because I'm not a little kid.
Ish 1 AGO 2014 a las 11:45 a. m.
The couple is clearly ripping off Chip'n'Dale, get real guys.

Sword Art Online is pretty bad, this on the other hand isn't.
Haseo8 1 AGO 2014 a las 11:47 a. m.
Even though it did start in 2002(which I learned after doing proper research, can't believe I missed it, it was literally punching me in the face) I hardly see any simularities. It's better if you posted what each simularity is.

I'm pretty certain a lot of us have actually. As a result, many of us really do think that you're grasping at straws.
Jeo 1 AGO 2014 a las 11:48 a. m.
SAO and SNK are not alike and I don't think, one os the most old and prestigious jRPG dev would "copy" (or whatever) some novel from a competition. Alas, the game has already been in development. Just finish the game, please!
Kamion 1 AGO 2014 a las 11:50 a. m.
This game came out in 2004 and first character designs etc of Estelle and Joshua were released YEARS before. Work on Trails in the Sky started after (or even during) completion of the Gagharv Saga.

Afair, it was 4-5 years in the making, so yeah, Trails in the Sky was out way before SAO.

Also yes, SAO was first published in 2002 as a webnovel, but without character designs or anything, also it had no real popularity whatsoever until 2007ish when the author submitted Accel World.

Check your facts. Thank you.

Also: I played all of the Kiseki series AND read all of SAO (well until Alicitation at least, I just couldn't take it anymore)
And I just can't see where you're basing off your similarities. Even IF SAO had been around before, it hardly invented dual wielding characters...

And I just CAN'T see where Asuna - the most two dimensional, boring female waifu character in recent history - is ANYTHING like strong, boyish and (imo) interesting Estelle.

Sword Art Online is bad and you should feel bad
Coliuto 1 AGO 2014 a las 11:53 a. m.
I think I haven't ever seen such an absurd comparison, which isn't correct anyway. Also, I see you constantly reaffirming how you're not a "little kid". This thread is comedy gold, guys!

"I'm gonna bash a game's two main characters because I know next to nothing about them, and they're physically similar to Kirito and Asuna in a strange way! And this game seems popular so I'll say something totally senseless about it, comparing it to a really overrated series like SAO! Ha, who's the boss now?!"

Yeah, right, I laughed pretty hard.
