Xbox one controller issue
So I have been trying for half a week to try and figure out the problem myself. Somehow the game does not accept any controller (Xbox one wireless controller, with build in bluetooth) input as it won't do anything for me.

At first I thought it might have been a settings issue, but I can't seem to find the problem (yes enable gamepad is on). After that I thought it might be the xbox 360 plugin that has been the issue, so I deleted it. After that I updated the controllers firmware and still no luck.

I am out of ideas and truly don't know where the problem seems to lie.

When checking the configuration screen it still says XBOX 360 for windows, but when I update that list, it doesn't give me the option to select this controller.

Everything else works with the controller, even other games work with it, it's just this one that isn't using the controller input.

My config screen is set as:
Device: Controller (XBOX 360 for Windows)
All the controller buttons set to an action
Enable Gamepad = on
Analog = off
Right stick Camera = on
Invert Rotation = off
Sensitivity is on 60.

Field turbo rate = 2x
Battle turb rate = 4x
Camera rotation = Free
Default Movement = Walk
Transparency = off

Is there anyone that knows what I can do to be able to play it with the controller?

Have you tried turning off Steam's own input mapper?

Right click game in library -> properties, set steam input-per-game setting as forced off

Since you have an Xbox controller, there is no reason to have it enabled.

From the Library section, right-click on the game and select Properties from the menu.
Select the Local files tab and click the Verify integrity of game files... button.
Steam will verify the game's files - this process may take several minutes.

So the verifying removed the controller from the gamepad tab. It showed back up when I connected the controller by wire. Yet the game still doesn't register the input I give in the game. Does anyone know other solutions that may help?

Top right corner of steam click on view Settings controller General Controller settings then Generic gamepad configuration support

So I tested it on the laptop I have steam installed on. And on there it works like a charm. So it seems to be an issue on this computer (which I want to use for playing). I checked the gamepad configuration screen of the game and I notices that the device selected on the laptop is 'Bluetooth XINPUT-Compatible insertdevice'. On the desktop it's Controller (XBOX 360 for Windows). It seems like the 360 controller driver/settings is still somewhere on the computer.

I have uninstalled it from the softwarelist and I can't seem to find the controller in devmgmt.msc. So there is another place where the computer is getting this data from. Anyone have an idea on where I can search for this to delete this thing?

You are a genius. This works perfectly! Thank you so much!

I'm used to play with m and k/b by now. Still worth it.

XBox One controller on gaming rig (with dongle) and on laptop (bluetooth). No problems at all in any way. Great to play with a decent controller.

It's not a story. It's facts and I'm trying to help. Are you trying to tell me I should not give detail and help? I guess I learnt my lesson. I won't bother in the future.

Not at all. You deemed that. Not me. Just because it does actually work...

Be gone. You have added nothing.
