i just bought the game a few hours ago and was sitting here waiting for a reply for the last 30 mins and was bored. WISH i could play the game i bought but you know..pc gaming and all,.
eh...is that in the game folder or somewhere else? lol. all i want to do is put the imaginary disc in the machine and press play and slump down on the couch, like the old days of good :D
You can disable the movies in the configuration program (you don't miss anything, story-wise, it's just an opening credits movie of stills of the major characters in the game). - open the config program and disable opening movie)
Thanks! disabling the video worked! is it safe to turn the videos back on or does this glitch happen every time a video plays?
If you do enable them though, and you have the same problem at the end, if the game doesn't pass the end credits it may sort of freeze and not allow you to save the game for either NG+ or to import into Sky second chapter.
Sky Second chapter has a few more movies that play in the game, although again they aren't mandatory, but a couple of moments won't be quite the same and so you won't get the full experience, so it would be worth fixing before you get to that game at least.
As mentioned though it is a codec problem of some description and can be difficult to determine what it was that actually caused your problem initially
Some suggestions previously given though are:
- ensure that you have installed the DXsetup and the 2008 vcredist runtimes
- uninstall any codec pack like CCCP or K-like (sometimes even installing one fixes the problem)
- installing the official Xvid codec.
- renaming xvid.dll (or deleting) in \Trails in the Sky FC\dll
Unfortunately, it's difficult to know what will fix it for you specifically.
i shall try all of that, thanks guy! been a long day, off to sleep for now but when i arise from slumber, i will try to get it working correctly.
I would try to play this vid directly from the folder without the game. If it works, you have the right codecs installed and its not a codec issue. If it still wont play, then its time to do some sleuthing by trying the steps listed.
That makes it sound like:
1) it's something wrong with the game.
2) it happens to everyone.
Point #2 is definitely not the case. I have had all the videos play fine for me inside of all the Trails games and the videos never caused crashes or any kind of errors whatsoever. No doubt many others have also had that same experience.
So I think it's more likely a problem specific to your particular computer system, rather than a problem with the game itself.
Dragon, please read the whole thread. He's aware already that there is a problem specific to him, solutions have been provided and hopefully we can help him get it sorted out.
