Controller support?

I'm using a PS4 controller with Input mapper. Normally it shows up as an XBOX controller, no big deal. I've been using it for literally years.

I can't figure out how to make this game run with it. I've found that if I select 'wireless controller' from the config menu it detects input, but every time I try to configure the controller to work in a sane way, it randomly reassigns buttons to do different things, and it's impossible to get it fully mapped out and have it stay that way.

Any help would be appreciated, other than buying new programs or controllers, or playing with a mouse/keyboard.

PS4 controller works fine for me. Instead of using inputmapper you should try using Big Picture Mode. Click "View" (top-left of steam browser), then Big Picture Mode, then the cogwheel and "controller settings". Under there you'll find a box to tick for PS4 Configuration Support. Enable that and all you need is to have a controller connected through bluetooth or the usb (turn off inputmapper while using it though).

just get a controller that is supported by windows, i dont own and xbox 360 or xbox one, but i still use those controllers, less of messing around with third party programs to make it work.

Eh. I'm trying not to accumulate more and more junk. I've got enough useless stuff as it is. I'll just pass on the game.

Use Steam to have the PS4 controller behave as a 360 controller. It should work without issues.

You can also get Mayflash's Switch adapter which also works for PC and has an xbox mode where the controller will behave by default as a 360 controller without issues.

Just for someone looking for this like I was, Check in options(not in game but the configuration outside game) that the gamepad is enabled in controls, after that check if it detects the controller by binding something, that was my problem

Sorry to necro an old topic but did anyone ever figure out how to make a Dualshock work with this game? I really want to play through the series but only if I can use my Dualshock. It doesn't recognize it, the box is checked for gamepad but I can't remap and it just does nothing. Any help would appreciated...unless you tell me to buy an Xbox controller in which case you'll just be blocked. But any actual HELP would be great. Thanks in advance.

I'm using a dualsense, but maybe my input will help. The game behaves very weird with the dualsense, and I believe DS4 as well. Some combination of changes to the game's controller preferences, steam's controller settings, and steam input getting toggled on and off got my controller to be recognized through bluetooth. But every time I restarted my PC and came back the next day, the game's config tool would no longer recognize my dualsense and my controller would just behave as a mouse and keyboard.

It was a real hassle... however, it seems that starting the game in big picture mode with steam input ON got my controller to be recognized every time somehow. The configuration menu doesn't even show the dualsense as an available gamepad!

So yeah, just try to boot the game through big picture mode. I only boot the game through the config tool btw. Maybe that's part of it. (for some reason the game crashes when I boot it normally) This of course also doesn't allow you to remap controls... but I think the default buttons are totally fine. Good luck!

I'm so happy it worked for you! For posterity's sake, I eventually ended up being able to boot the game without going into big picture mode and my dualsense was recognized every time with no more problems. Hope you're enjoying the game, I just finished it :D
