How to interrupt a charging skill

I'm having trouble unlocking the interrupting a charging skill task on some of the episodes. Anyone know how to pull it off?

When an enemy is performing a move that requires charging, there's a certain amount of damage you need to do. The charge should show up as a buff/debuff on the enemy. If you highlight over it you should see how much damage you need to do to break the charge.

I have just started season 4 and the only charge up I can recall is during mecha-kaiju fights. The only way I can see to interupt it is to knock them down, otherwise make sure you have enough health to survive and make sure to use the defend option to end your combo.
