The "avoiding sexist tropes" discussion was stupid.
Now don't get me wrong here. I'm not opposed to the idea of rescuing a male hostage instead of a female one.
What bothers me is how the game had to have a discussion among the characters about how important it was to avoid being sexist and set a good example for the children watching it. It pulled me out of the game to feel as though I was being preached to, and the character insisting on the change to the rest of the team came across as pushy and demanding, which didn't really help the message.

Do you really have to make such a huge deal out of how you decided not to use a female hostage? Did we really need an episode dedicated to making this point?

Edit: And so what should've been a simple discussion of whether or not the discussion in the episode was worth including has turned into a GG vs anti-GG ♥♥♥♥-flinging contest. Good job guys.

Wow, I really hate ham fisted preaching like that. Will avoid. Thank you.

It was rather cringey. I mean, good for you, not using a female hostage, but making the whole episode about what a revolutionary and wonderful choice it was?

I wouldn't call it bad enough to avoid the game, it was maybe five minutes long. Just suffer through, the game is worth it.

While you're probably looking for an excuse to badmouth the game, it was only one ten minute long episode out of a 12+ hour game. The game is certainly enjoyable despite this.
Well, unless there are more of these that I haven't gotten to yet. I hope there aren't.

Pretty sure you're reading to much into it.

Didn't feel preachy to me. Felt like satire, considering the context of the game around it!
Obvious satire poking fun at what has become a trope in and of itself in our media.

The game wasn't -actually- preaching at you.

I think it was poking fun at how much of an issue such a non issue can become, and frankly, has become. Kind of like this thread ;p

This was talked about some hours ago on the other forum. Actually, part of the mission changed because of a long discussion that started in the forum back in the beta.

Rude: I did consider that it could have been satire in the sense that it was to poke fun at the people who would demand such changes, as the character does in the episode, but I didn't feel it was intended to be seen that way. Having the character demand it and the others simply acquiesce could have given that impression, but the way they proceed to discuss the positive message it gives and how they have responsibilities as role models instead made it appear quite played straight.

It was awkward and kind of un-needed but whatever, it's so small it's insignificant to the game as a whole.

Glad i came to the forums before buying this.

I'm not gonna support some Coward Dev who can't make a game without pandering to some retarded SJW's.

It did feel kinda awkward, at least at first. But seeing as the dialogue itself was objectively rather neutral, I can shrug it off due to comparing this to the more vocal kinds of people assuming gamers are childish/sexist/blah and don't understand tropes that caused this backlash in the first place.
To those kinds of people... Gamers are much more aware of thinking outside the box than you think. We get it. You only needed to put it in a game, like Metroid, Heavenly Sword or Chroma Squad.

Well it wasn't JUST cringe indusing but it also made no sense given what this game is supposed to be... in that shouldn't our dirrector stuntment actors be kind of oblivious to what they are doing?

I mean they made the yellow ranger the "Asian Ranger" by default.

I wouldn't have minded if they made the hostage a guy, hey awesome. But to get all up in your own ass about it, la la we're changing the world. That speaks not of expressing your own artistic vision.

It felt very out of place. But I'm glad it's there if only to weed out babies like two of the posters above who now refuse to buy it. (as if they had any intentions of doing so in the first place)

Yeah so, people whining about how "preached to" they felt by that scene can cry me a river. The scene was fine and you can take your "Poor little me" act elswhere.

The only thing that dissapointed me was that from the title of the episode, it seemed like it was an option, rather than the choice being made for me. A minor dialogue change and a different sprite based on your choice would have added some replayability for the level. It came off as SLIGHTLY preachy, it DID break immersion EVER so slightly... but then I was back to punching and forgot about it until I saw this thread. It's no big deal.
Hox May 1, 2015 @ 3:31am
muh immersion.
