Voice acting
The game looks interesting, but I really cannot stand the voice acting in the teaser videos, especially the protagonist's voice: frankly, I have heard better from free mods. Is it representative of the entire game or does this get eventually better?

The voice acting isn't pro, but I find it really enjoyable. I especially love the cell call after the flood event, you sound like a total badass!:B1:

Hi guys. I'm the main character's voice.

You have an awesome voice. I admit that I had to turn on the subtitles to understand everything, but that was mostly due to environmental sounds/voices competing with it.

When I made the record, I have not seen any pictures of my character.

We haven't seen any pictures of the character either. :tgrin: So your voice is all that we have to use to envision him.

I do like your voice and think it fits the character good. Some middle aged guy who is just doing his every day work.
But I figured english isn't your main language and therefore think someone with english as first language should have checked over the voice acting and let you re-record the lines until it fits the game. Some better pronouncation and more emotion in some places would have helped a lot.
I think new and improved recordings would be very good for the game.

I'm terribly sorry that you do not like my voice.
First of all, English is not my mother tounge.

When I made the record, I have not seen any pictures of my character.
I imagined a man who beats people to death with a flashlight in the tunnel. :)))

So I try to create a smoother version, will try to make my voice soften. :)

Sorry for the inconvenience.

I think you did great! It is completely understandable that English is not your primary language. Please excuse some comments on this Steam discussion board, some people may be too critical over something they take for granted. Thank you for your involvement in this project.

I don't have a problem with the main characters voice.
I took him to be a sarcastic, bitter engineer that is overall pretty weary with his job. Anybody who has ever been around someone who is burned out with their job understands the detachment the character has with some of the events around him.

He talks a little bit differently than his coworkers, but that's not a problem - engineering is a profession with a lot of diversity.

I think a little more time could be spent in phone conversations between marc and coworkers but other than that it really hasn't detracted from the game for me.

The voicing is one of the main problems in an otherwise good game. All of the voice actors sound amateur, but it's made worse by the accents. Finnish? Not really sure.

There's so much attention to detail in this game that makes the environments feel like a real place, so it really sticks out when I hear actors that clearly don't sound like they belong there. The setting initially seems Scandanavian (believe it or not, an American corporate building probably won't have a sauna in it), but the names and newspaper suggest America. In either case, thickly accented English doesn't fit either setting.

Arnold Schwarzeneggar may have been able to get an audience to accept that he's just a regular cop from an American city, but he's the exception.

Imagine the movie, "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," only now these clearly Swedish actors are for some reason speaking English with a thick accent. Or, suppose the American remake of that movie played in Sweden with the English/American actors speaking poor Swedish. Either situation would significantly detract from their performance. That's what seems to be happening in this game.

A much better solution is to let the actors record in their native tongue and simply put subtitles over it. It would set the scene much better. This is a game about patient observation and exploration, so I'm pretty sure your audience would be okay with subtitles.

The issue isn't your voice itself. It's very gruff, and like some people have said, make you sound like an old engineer who doesn't care about his job too much.

I think the issue is simply the delivery. Many times it feels like you're trying to respond seriously to a situation, but instead come out sarcastic, and vice versa. Or rather, it feels like you're reading the lines individually, instead of with the person you're conversating with.

I must say that I have started to like the rough voice of the player. He literally sounds like he spent the night at office and has already seen everything in the corrupt and broken city of Stalburg.

Not to mention that cities tend to be rather cosmopolitan. Hell, I live in a small suburb and people have distinctive accents from all over the globe.

The character Mark no doubt moved to Stahlburg from Hungary in the recent past. Yes, in the beginning he did sound a bit like a dremora who'd had too much Osmo Olut the previous night, but I managed to get used to it.

Besides, Stahlburg's in Europe somewhere (my money's on the coast of Croatia or Macedonia). Why shouldn't the cast have native accents?

I like the voice of the main character. He somehow reminds me of Fernando Martinez from the GTA games, sooo comforting... :steamhappy:

I also like the Voice of the main Character so far!

It's very soothing and somehow fits the whole setting.

What i like about infra is that its so "normal"
The setting, the office, the run down buildings etc.
Thats not something you see in most games.

Actually you don't see something like that AT ALL in games.

So the voice fits that all perfectly, since it's not something "gamers" are used to get with a game.

I think any "professional" voice acting ala Nolan North would ruin the athmosphere of the game.

Please keep the old Voice actor for Part2 !

Hey guys,

Just to clarify, we've updated the player's voice in the March 15th update. Some of the older comments here are referring to the old voice, which was much more gravely.

The player's voice actor, Gabor, was awesome and wanted to redo all of the lines, so that's what's in the game right now.
