The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

I'm currently on a 20 lose streak
Do I just need more practice? I'm having a lot of fun, and I can usually at least kill Mom. But I always die in the Womb levels.

Sometimes I'll go in with a great build, lots of damage and plenty of health. But all it takes is one though room to nearly kill me.

I've only killed Mom's Heart two times, and both of those times I got a ridiculously OP build with Azazel.

I guess I'll just keep playing and see if I get better over time. But any tips for me are welcome.

When you get on a big losing streak, sometimes taking a breather and walking away to do something else for a while can help clear your head.

Ultimately practice is your best bet. Some things to keep in mind:

1. Dodging is king, even if your aim is terrible, if you can dodge, you can eventually win any room.

2. Learn how enemies move and can be manipulated. This can only come with practice, but for instance, you will find that many mobs can be somewhat "herded" to be more manageable once you learn to feel out their movement style. eg; spiders tend to make a movement every couple seconds, and if you're within a certain range, you can make them move towards you on the next cycle, etc.

3. Don't feel like you have to take -every- devil deal or item you come across. Learn to spot bad deals/item combos. For instance, brother bobby/sister maggy are generally considered bad devil deals, while lil brimstone is generally a good one. A flying item usualy a thing to go out of your way for if you can, even if it's at the expense of a damage item early in a run, for the gain in mobility regardless of room design.

4. Practice practice practice. Everyone is bad in Isaac at first, whether they started with the original Isaac or with rebirth. It is a very unforgiving game but with patience and practice you will get better.

Have fun

Well, according to your profile you've put 24 hours into Rebirth, and you never played the original. So basically it just amounts to needing more practice. Getting those huge lose streaks can be discouraging, but if you keep playing you'll get fewer and fewer of them.

Currently the Womb levels are pretty cheap in their difficulty, so I don't blame you for dying there.

also get The Wafer

300+ with the Lost. Don't feel bad, OP, death is a normal part of the endless hell that is Isaac's miserable existence.

Dude, it's fine. When I was doing the Family Man challenge I racked up 40+ losses before eventually clearing it. Practice makes perfect. :)

The womb levels and the damn heart ruin my runs. Sometimes I am not even sure how I am supposed to dodge some of what it throws out.

Good news everyone! I played again today, and had two very successful runs. They weren't too OP, or weak, just simply fun.

I made it all the way to Satan both times, and killed him both times. Very cool fight.

I'm not sure what I did to make Sheol spawn both times, but I'm glad I did whatever I did.

Thanks for all the tips everyone! It really helped. Now I guess I'll just keep trying to unlock more characters.

after moms heart, when you go to the trapdoor, you will come to sheol, when you step into the lightbeam, you will come to the cathedral

Popping a Devil Room at Mom's Heart lets you "sequence break" into Sheol early. Looks like you've unlocked Sheol and the Cathedral permanently now, good luck and glad you're getting the hang of it.

Oh, well what's the normal way you're supposed to get into Sheol? I got devil rooms after Mom's Heart that lead me to it.

Also, what's the Cathedral? I assume it's the heaven room version of Sheol. Does that mean there's another super boss like Satan?

I should probably just go to the Wiki for these things. But no harm in asking here.

There are several other bosses beyond Satan.

The normal way to unlock Sheol/Cathedral is to just kill mom's heart 11 times, once you do that, you unlock It Lives, which is just a reskinned Mom's Heart essentially. Once you kill It Lives you always get a Sheol or Cathedral choice (trap door or beam of light).

Then to further progress, you'll want to kill Isaac 4 times to put together the polaroid/the negative, which in turn will grant you access to the treasure chest/dark room.

Good Luck!
