Big Gold Door in Dark Room

I was on my first run through the dark room when I came across a huge door with a key drawn on it, leading into a room that wasn't on the map. If you want a picture, it's the most recent screenshot on my profile.

Given the amount of gold leaf on that thing, it's got to have good ♥♥♥♥ inside. My gut instinct is that Mom's Key opens it up, but I had the bad luck to miss it on that run. Anyone else seen it/opened it/ reaped the rewards?

Damnnn, that looks intriguing as hell. Mom's Key does seem like the logical course of action to get that thing open. Sounds like a super secret is on our hands. Maybe it could lead to City of Gold floor a la an homage to Spelunky knowing how much he loves that game?

I've heard that there's a secret 3rd boss, on par with Lamb and ???. Not sure if he's tied into that, but it could be a lot of different stuff. Maybe it's a free brimstone+polyphemus.

So for those who are curious, I found how to open it: you bomb the statues in the middle of Angel Rooms and kill what comes out. Do this twice in one run, and you get the way to open the door. Note that if you go into chest door while you're in fullscreen, it'll crash your game.

i've bombarded an angel statue before and i didn't get anything out of it.

Pack a full health bar and some big guns. Or Blank Card + Chaos, whatever works for you.

You fight mega satan, a three stage boss and once beaten you unlock ending 16. Which is really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ creepy.
