How are you supposed to complete "SPEED" challenge?

Seriously how are you supposed to do it?
20 minutes is already quite low amount of time to get to Mom if you don´t have good items, but how are you supposed get to Mom´s Heart in 16 minutes and do it while enemies are much harder to hit and kill?
I just don´t get it. If you don´t get good items right from the start what are you supposed to do? You can´t make it to Mom´s Heart with one +1 damage up, some tears up or something in 16 minutes especially if you have to face ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ like multiple walking hosts in one room or tank bosses like Carrion Queen, Mega Fattie, Mask of Infamy etc..
There´s no challenge in that, it just relies on RNG to get through.
Or am I seriously missing something here?

Reset until you get a good starting damage/roomclear item, then two things become REALLY important: mapping, and damage. I completed the challange with blue map, triple shot, brimstone, guppy's head.If you have a decent combo for clearing rooms, you don't even have to stop for shops/item rooms, especially if you would have to go out of your way to the boss to get them.Unicorn stump/midas or any touch item is really good, but generally the first few shops/devil deals decide if you should even try.It IS a lot of RNG, but I think it's kind of fun when you get a hang of it, since even good runs can ♥♥♥♥ you up if you don't play them right, becaouse you have to get agressive to save time and you can't play defensive anymore, which is how 90% of us plays the game normally.Have fun! (Oh, and floorskipping floors when you don't have a devil deal via cards or the shovel is huge, too)

You basically answered your own question. "If you don't get good items right from the start". That's the key.

You have to reset until you get a game winning item from the first floor, like mom's knife. And even with such an item, it will still be a big and hard challenge, but it will be a possible challenge.

My girl did this challenge earlier. She found the Left Hand in the first chest and was Guppy by the time she hit Basement 2. Start searching shops and found Hive Mind.

That was her first try and I still can't get a good starting item.

Holy Mantle may potentially void the timed damage since one "merely" takes damage each 10s. all one then might require is some damage.

Didn't get mapping when I beat it, but I did get the stopwatch early... made it to the final floor with 9 lives and no time left

was able to suicide (time), use guppys paw, super quick kill mom, die (time), use guppys paw, collect trophy...

was ugly

I have to agree. This one should have been two challenges. One where you have to get to Mom's Heart in under 16 minutes (which can still be called Speed!), which is already quite challenging, and one where the enemies are really fast (it would be called Caffeinated, and you start with the caffeine pill and speed ball). Those two would have been interesting. Combining them was just dumb, in my humble opinion.

I didn't need a super great item right off the bat, I just needed non-b.s. bosses like Gemini/Steven, Lust, or War.
Usually if the treasure room wasn't on the way to the boss I said ♥♥♥♥ it and skipped it.

well u need a run u can get decent amount of coin and get map or compass from shop
no missing out those rooms is mistake, u never know

I just did it. Got Ipecac + Stopwatch. Just bombed my way through and won. My advice is reset until you get something real good floor 1, and check every shop for stopwatch.

I rolled with decidedly average items up until caves 2, got the shovel and ehwaz and cheezed it to moms heart with ~3 minutes to spare at the end of it.
Just persist, damage isnt the only thing that will get you through (it certainly helps though).

lol shovel is god sent in this mode, in devil room its must get or if u luck out finding it in the shop
