Truth, Tech X + Dunce Cap is a godly combo. With lump of coal, the beams have considerable overlap too, and makes most regular rooms a total joke. Dunce Cap seems to be a really good synergy item, but I will give that it's really bad on its own.

Not quite. It's more like R U A WIZARD + 20/20. You shoot in both directions at the same time, so if you're only hitting someone with one stream you're still doing regular damage. It's more of a sidegrade than a straight upgrade (attacking diagonally is sometimes better and sometimes worse, and hitting with both streams is really rare), but I'll normally take it if it comes up.

Unlike the Wizard Pill which makes you fire left and right alternately, you always fire from both eyes with The Wiz. Thus it's much easier to aim. Useful against enemies like Clotty. But then it can make some room layout pretty annoying, for example, a long narrow room with fast Globins.
IMO it's not entirely useless but situationally good and only truly good with some synergies.

As long as you have flight (and some speed) the wiz probably won't kill your run, but it'll definitely be a departure from the standard playstyle.

I picked it up for the spectral tears during the XXXXXXL challenge since I already had white pony (of course the next item that spawns is dead dove but w/e). Was expecting it to fire at 45 degree angles, but it's really a much wider spread (didn't work as well with penny tears as I'd hoped). Think of it less as a cone of projectiles and more as an exercise in facing either side of yourself towards the enemy, which is very counter-intuitive (but it works).

I agree that it's pretty awkward to use in most situations and can be dicey if you're cornered on foot by chasing enemies. If you happen to have homing tears though, this would actually be a GREAT item to pick up.

Basically, as long as you can run away away from enemies or kill them, dunce cap is a way to go. Its true that your standard aiming technique will vary, but with proper use, you will be fighting eniemies similar to wide spread akimbo style.

The Wiz is Situational, not really a BAD item. There are plenty of other items that go with it, that make it good and play to the benefit of shooting twice the tears with no penalty to tears rate.

A Bad item on the other hand, would be something like Bob's Brain. Bad to take, REQUIRES specifically one of two items to not be bad, is still pretty rubbish even with the items required to not hurt yourself
