skipping the mom boss?

so i had an upgrade which let me crush rocks by walking over them. one time I was on the last floor right before the mom fight and i crushed a rock and a trapdoor apppeared beneath it. if i had walked over the trap door would i have skipped the mom fight and gone to a lower floor? or would the game just have ended?

If the trapdoor didn't have a ladder in it, you would have gone to the next floor.

Trapdoors that get created from breaking a rock are different from other trapdoors. They're called crawlspaces and should have a ladder in them and instead of bringing you down a floor they take you to a different room. These rooms often have enemies and items in them. They could also lead to a shop or a special shop called a black market where you buy items by giving up heart containers. You can exit the room and you go back to where you were. Because of the rewards, checking for these crawlspaces is usually very helpful.

If you want to skip the mom fight, then using We Need To Go Deeper (shovel) active item or an Ehwaz rune will spawn an entrance to the next floor. Alternatively you can use these on a floor tile with a decoration on it to spawn a crawlspace.
