How to unlock things fast and win.
Get the mod on the office that tells you what the items in the game does, because for some reason the game don't want you to know.

Restart game until you find some item on the item room that increase your dmg or increase you attack speed.

Pray for the next two item rooms don't give you tier 0 and 1 items.

Profit.

trying to slam my head against the brick wall that is BOI's RNG item pool is not my definition of fun. taking increasingly more and more time to clear floors/bosses because the absolutely diluted item pool screws me over and over again is not my idea of fun. losing a run because you got a bad room your pisspoor item rolls cannot handle is not my idea of fun.

hell, some items are actively run ruiners on their own!
with each DLC, the bosses have gotten more and more bullet hell-y and more and more bullet sponge-y, to the point where, if you don't have at LEAST a few good items, you're gonna be killing one boss for like, 10 minutes alone, simply because of the massively inflated HP stat and that weird damage cap

if i wanted a bullet hell with bullet sponge bosses, i'd play Touhou or some FPS MMO

even pressing R, you gonna learn how to play the game, you still need to kill bosses and stuff in the end, losing 30x consecutively will be more frustating than doing this i garantee you, most isaac players wont get past 15 hours of gameplay anyway, and the more stuff you unlock the less trash appear in the item pool, its a win-win, pressing R doesnt make me unable to learn stuff, i don't agree with you.

Sure, you can still learn some stuff.
What you don't learn, however, it how to play efficiently regardless of what the game throws at you because you'll only focus on runs where everything is pretty and nice. And since you can only win by getting carried by items, any run that doesn't include them will feel miserable and you'll restart on a loop for a while until you finally get your good starter (which is the frustrating experience I mention). That was my point.

So your strategy is nice to get a free win every once in a while. In the long run though, I don't think it's a good idea.

I'm with Naz on this one. I'd rather get my ass kicked up, down, left, right and center than resort to spamming the R button. I've never once rerolled, nor will I ever. I'm immediately unimpressed the few times I've seen "experts" on youtube who smash that R key to get amazing RNG on the first floor. In most any roguelite, the first upgrades you get often define your build for the rest of the run.

I'm still relatively new to Isaac. I know I'll eventually be getting 100%, even if I have to do it kicking and screaming. I'd still rather do it without rerolling.

You are very wrong. As Nazemec said, the "hold R" mentality is extremely harmful to your enjoyment of the game. I speak from experience.

Hey, whatever lifts your skirt. It's a single player game, do whatever you want. To me this is no different than people in Civ games who reroll their start over and over again until they start with abundant resources and the perfect setup. I could never justify it, as to me the RNG is literally the entire point of the genre. If I just wanted a regular ol' twinstick shooter I'd stick to the arcade games of yesteryear. There's something to be said for making the best of a bad situation, and that encapsulates the entire experience for me.

I'm glad the functionality is in the game only because it keeps a certain segment of the population content and I don't believe in robbing their fun if they aren't depriving me of mine. It does seem in the same train of thought as people who edit their saves to give themselves 100% achievements, but hey, it doesn't affect me.

I was with you until that last part, then you lost me
i'm 100% for people playing *single player* games how they wish, but when people come marching into discussions to denigrate or attack someone's playstyle, then i've got issues (not that that's what you specifically were doing)

however, i take issue with the last part of your statement, the "same train of thought as people save editing 100%"
it still takes time, effort, and yes, some skill, to complete BOI's challenges even while pressing and holding R. can certain items do a bulk of the workload for you? of course, but they can't beat the game for you, you still have to do it. you still have to know what items to pick (and which will ruin a run), how to dodge (especially on the damage capped final bosses), and how to work out trap rooms
i'm not trying to say pressing R runs is equal in difficulty to not pressing R runs, but to say that press R=save editing is just an illogical extreme

No problem, feel free to disagree with me all you wish.

Even if using "R" all the time were fine, how is this a noteworthy discovery? "Restart the game when you don't get what you want". Brillant strategy surely no one could ever come up with on their own...

im enjoying the game a lot pressing R, been getting like 5-10 wins everyday, everything is awesome.

idiotic irelevant and true claim, this game is one of the hardest roguelikes avaiable, people don't have patience to "learn patterns" they will just dump it and go to another game.
