The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

(SPOILERS) My 1st Alt Path Attempt! I Have Questions!

SPOILERS AHEAD

(Feel free to skip this paragraph - it's pretty much a blog post)
So, I finally completed the Post-It Notes for AB+ content. The only thing I haven't cleared is Ultra Hard. I originally thought that The Lost was going to be impossible to clear, but surprisingly, he was not so bad. Eve and Blue Baby were true nightmares. Greedier Mode seems impossible with both of them, and I cheesed like crazy. For both of those runs, I ended up getting Head of The Keeper + Boil/Sack/Gut enemies and literally spent hours just filling the room with coins and trying to find D20. I also found out the hard way that Blank Rune can turn every pickup into flies and I almost lost it. And then I found R Key while having Steam Sale so that saved my run.

My 1st Alt Path Attempt! I have some questions! And the game is already spoiled for me because I watched NL play through it.

1. I went Alt Path on the first floor, but when I went down from the second floor, I got sent back to the original path. Do you have to open the doors after every boss fight?

2. Do Tinted Rocks ever stop spawning? I don't think I ever found any of them in the Mausoleum, and my Mausoleum was an XL floor.

3. I did know to get the Knife Familiar but what benefit do I get by beating the harder version of Mom's Heart? Nothing happened after I cleared it.

4. I kept a Fool's Card on hand for after I fought the Mausoleum mom, but where is the Blocked Door I need to use it on. I couldn't find it in Mausoleum XL, but I thought it would be in the original room that you spawn in.

5. I died to Mother. I guess this isn't really a question, but that fight seems insanely hard. I'm not even really sure I would have made it all the way to her except for the fact that I had Sigil of Baphomet.

1. Yes, you have to open the special doors that spawn in the boss rooms

2. I don’t believe they stop, no

3. The door leading to Mom’s heart in Mausoleum 2 is the reason why you get the knife. Killing the heart causes you to go to the Corpse floor to defeat ‘Mother’

4. The locked door requiring a fool card is on Depths 2, not Mausoleum 2

5. You’ll get there, she is difficult but I believe in you

Hope this was helpful

Thank you! It was very helpful! I really appreciate it. I was really confused when I beat the Hard Mom fight and used the Fool Card to teleport out only to find that everything was so dark that I didn't know if the blocked off door was around or not. And since it was an XL floor, I was searching for a long time. lol

The Mausoleum is confusing, too, because the walls are decorated with what appear to be pillars and sturdy, solid walls which appear to be indestructible. So, I didn't know if there were Secret Rooms or not. I never found one, but I would imagine there would be Secret Rooms there if there are Secret Rooms in The Void.

If you defeat Mom in Mausoleum and don't kill the heart, you go down to Womb 2 instead of Corpse 1.

Here's my guide for Mother:

If you can blow up the nonexistent walls in The Void to reveal secret rooms, a couple of sturdy pillars certainly aren't going to be an issue for your bombs.

The Void (Delirium's floor) has walls in most of its rooms. You might be thinking of the Dark Room (Lamb's floor). :dip:

No, I think it's just that the new floors are foreign to me and doing runs through the alt path feel so weird.

Thanks for the guide. On one hand, I want to do the fight blind because that's more fun, but on the other hand, my runs are anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours and that mother fight wiped me out in seconds.

As far as the walls, I think it's just that the new floors on the alt path just feel weird. Everything feels weird. The enemies are weird, the rooms are weird, the mechanics are weird... I can only imagine what it's going to be like unlocking the Tainted versions of characters.

Remember on some floors the "tinted" rocks aren't actually tinted, they just have a small x barely visible on them that's not on the other version of that rock design.

There are no secret rooms in the ascent I read, but other than that they should appear on any floor with a proper random layout, plus in greed mode. I'm not sure, but I think they don't appear in the ??? floor before hush.

As for what walls they can appear through, just make sure no wall adjacent to the room has any sort of obstacles blocking the way to it. Basically, if the room layout would normally allow for a door there, it can place it next to a secret room. Also keep in mind that it is usually next to 3-4 rooms, but that can occasionally be next to 1 or 2 due to a lack of valid locations, and they can't be next to a boss room.

The second secret room is always a dead end room, normally second most distant from the start room in terms of how many rooms you need to walk through (large rooms count still as only one room for this purpose), and the most distant is normally the boss, and the third is the shop (so they are often near each other). There can be ties in this ranking, so 2 or 3 of those can be the same distance, and another dead end room the same distance from the shop. This can often narrow down the possibilities to a small number of choices that wouldn't break this rule.

The top secret room should be next to two valid red room locations, and remember it's not a valid red room location if it borders a wall that can't have a door in that room layout or the boss room.

False, check out the last picture of the Map Examination section of my other guide

As for super secret rooms, there's a much simpler way to explain their generation. They border with only 1 non-special room and they can only spawn as far from the starting room as the shop or further. Big rooms still count as 1 room.
