I just managed to beat the route with The Forgotten and it was quite painful tbh im not even sure how i managed it with such garbage items as controlled ipecac for the soul heart character although ipecac is actually pretty good for the melee one. However i only managed it due to going around hogging balls of steel on earlier floors and choosing the light polaroid and prob the best devil i made in that run was the red void thing that sucks enemies and it prob helped 2-4 hits avoided at the final boss since it takes bullets too.
But ye the game is impossible even on normal now for the corpse route since it has to be a calculation each time due to the braindead design choice of requiring 1 key and 2 bombs and on top of that not to forget the ashpit sacrifice thing since most people prob go to the minecart first and after that forgetting the door and jumping to necropolis instead thus wasting your precious time like it did mine right now when i jumped accidentally down with Azazel because i keep forgetting the idiotic design choice of the door not being next to the minecart exit but in the boss room.
Terrible design choices overall in the new dlc. I dont think im even going to bother with the unplayable lost/keeper/Jacob till theres a mod or trainer to adjust them to a sensible and enjoyable experience with the corpse route.
Dosnt help with the item influx the hp/damage ups dont spawn as much as they used to
I'm doing fine on normal but hard mode seems too luck based now that the devil deals, shops and resource find were nerfed hard.
On a more serious not we are in a effect-item meta, as much as I hate the phrase "git gud" I think you could benefit from using the tools the game gives you better.
But im gonna be honest it's boring as ♥♥♥♥ , shooting that boss for like ~15 minutes.
I sometimes reset runs halfway trough just because I don't wanna deal with that.
Unless I get some cool tear effect that makes it interesting.
seriously though it becomes quite annoying when some runs all you get from bosses is items that don't really help in the long run like dad's lost coin, booster pack, tropicacaiamide aka the tear size up useless item, mum's undies, mum's heels, mum's lipstick, magic 8 ball (actually the +15% planetarium chance is great, but it's nearly always useless if you get it in the caves or depths), pageant boy (only very, very occasionally is it actually something I'd be happy about), box (also occasionally useful, but often it won't make a difference), safety pin, latch key, match book, and mom's pearls. And then if all you get in the treasure rooms is just active items, even if they're good you can only carry one so most treasure rooms become useless, and then you have a run where you are pretty much base stats in terms of DPS and it's not fun.
Although to be honest, it's a rare occurrence and I only restarted once.

are you kidding me? Normal mode literally hand feeds you op items and an overabundance of consumables and blue hearts. I tried a few normal runs for the heck of it and was able to get to the beast and beat him in under 40 to 30 minutes tops every time, no one should really have any issue beating the game on the current iteration of normal whatsoever.
You have to get out of the comfort zone and stick to hard mode so you can develop your skill with the game. It may sound impossible but with practice, you will become very accustomed and won't look back on normal runs ever again. Push yourself, YOU CAN DO IT!!!!
exactly: adding to that: i havent had a dr fetus in like 50 runs, meanwhile i find some items so often that u could think any good item has a high chance to get rerolled into "trash" items, linger bean, lemon mishap, cains other eye, ANY OF THE 500 USELESS FOLLOWERS THIS GAME HAS, cant even tell you how often i found the same ♥♥♥♥ over and over again
