Why is Repentance so bad?
Seriously, I wanna know. Why do you dislike it? I haven't experienced many issues with it myself.

I love how most people that enjoy the dlc are like "if you don't like this dlc you suck at the game, you just enjoyed it before because it was easier and completely diferent than now. If you don't enjoy having your balls crushed every 5 secs and play only tainted lost, you don't deserve enjoying the game anymore".

It's a really frustrating strawman. I saw the same thing when Terraria 1.4 dropped. It's like these people can't fathom there's fun in being overpowered, that some things become a meta aspect of a game, or that these major changes shouldn't have been made a decade after release.

I like your name.

Oh and it's not. It's just that a lot of the broken items got nerfed so most of the mediocre players are mad they can't get carried by busted items every run anymore. Rather than accept that they aren't actually that good at Isaac they choose to complain and take their anger out on the expansion for "ruining the game".

I'm not saying Repentance is a flawless masterpiece. There are a few things about it I dislike like the change to how boss challenge rooms work but saying the game is ruined because of them is just plain silly.

Short version: People realized they were playing "The Binding of I-suck" all along.

Outside of some early knee jerk reactions the reception has been mostly positive I think.

I personally like it a lot. Had more fun grinding the achievements compared to AB or AB+

I'd still be able to see how people would dislike it. Developers had ideas to turn the difficulty up and the wackiness to be more earned/luckier. Also changing certain items for the worse is much more of an impact than the changes of different items for the better so it sticks out.

People were very used to the easier AB+ gameplay so its a hard adjustment when Repentance asks for more, people can be turned off by the challenges and characters. More changes to things beyond items like a harder hard mode, soul heart generation being weakened and hard bosses/enemies.

The playerbase is casual, but the developers and their testers aren't thinking about that. They tailored it more towards the experienced player. It's rewarding to people like me I guess.

Sure is a smash out 74% great thing!

be nice if there was a single bit of communication from the devs on these forums though, even just confirmation they are reading the bug report threads they started would be nice.
Suppose I can ask this now to you guys:

When will mod support be enabled?

Firstly i love this ahaha, secondly yeah youre right. Rebirth, afterbirth and ab+ were all really easy, so the addition of repentance is honestly great since it makes the game challenging now. And hard mode is actually hard now. Yeah the game is a big ‘get good’ shoved in your face, but thats what i love about it

Its coming next update. They're still updating the API to work with Repentance

I think its a loud minority that keep crying about it. For me repentance is incredibly good, is has some downsides and nerfs I dislike, but in general I think its amazing.

not going to lie, the item nerfs slapped me in the face and the prevelance of only bomb upgrades on the release week (♥♥♥♥ luck I guess) really made me annoyed. But, overall a couple new bosses and stuff to do is always welcome. Even if they nerfed my anthema.

Only thing I dislike is Jacob and Esau. Trash idea for a character IMO.

I really dislike the extra special effects, animations, and such. I much prefer the lack of them from previous versions. For example the stationary head enemy that shoots a tear when they see you. Why does it need to have a circle red splash cone around it when it fires, and to do a whole animation around the shooting of said tear?

It's overabundance of these animations and particle effects everywhere that is just too much for me. I like the simplicity better.

nothing about this dlc is good

I just wish there was more damage availability in passive items or activatable items gave a very small passive damage buff just for touching them.It is frustrating to get to womb and losing because if I just had 1 or 2 more damage, I wouldn't have taken damage a few seconds later than clearing a room normally takes for me.

Boss armor. Boss armor on everything

Thats why its bad.

I can't claim I agree, but I don't think it was a bad idea, i think it was just a lot harder than people were expecting.
Funnily enough, back in Antibirth noone really complained about them, and when they were buffed for Repentance, they were complained about.

As for OP's question, Repentance, at least in my opinion, is the best the game has been since Rebirth. With most runs being averaged (still allowing for the amazing and the bad runs), it's now much easier to enjoy it. AB+'s biggest issue was how black and white runs were, they were either OP as ♥♥♥♥ or downright awful. Repentance centres that consistency and now it's more enjoyable.
It's not without it's faults, but it's still great to me.
