The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

Is there a mod that makes this game fit for a 10-year-old?
I mean remaking all blood and devils. Is there such a thing? I want to play with my little brother, but this game is too ... devilish.

There's also a lot of urine and poop and farts, but we call that stuff "juvenile humor" for a reason. Certainly less concerning for a five-year-old to be putting in his imaginary story.

That said, it still feels like a difficult endeavor just removing the sexual and religious stuff (because regular old horned netherworlders are one thing, but this is very explicitly Christian with "Satan", "The Fallen" and "The Adversary" as just the more obvious names.)

Are you suggesting religious stuff is not suitable for minors? I'm pretty sure a lot of kids know about Satan and that not being a big deal.

I mean like, as long as you don't have Siren big booby mod or something, I think your brother would be fine.

As someone who started playing this game when I was 10, I can assure you that you have nothing to fear. The only bad thing that happened to me because of Isaac was that I was pretty scarred for 2 nights after looking at the boss portraits on the wiki.

The poops and farts and devils - I agree. That being said I have no idea where is this sexual stuff. Could you explain more? Maybe I didn't unlocked "sexual" items yet.

Thank you, that looks useful. Are those mods available for Repentance?

Actually you are right, being a christian and playing this game just make you maybe understand things more. And the game is cartoonish so it should be okay as well. Yet I don't think I'm sure it'll be okay for him.

No no, absolutely no such mods.

Oh haha, I see, thank you for revealing. I started playing postal 2 when I was even younger :steamhappy:

a fun story: I was once playing Isaac at my university ('cause my uni is cool like that). that day was the official "take your children to your work" day in Finland. I had forgotten about it, and soon I realized there was a boy watching me play... 7 to 9 years old.

I was all "oh ♥♥♥♥ oh ♥♥♥♥ what am I going to do", of course. in my infinite wisdom I thought that the damage was already done, so whatever. the boy said, "wow this looks so cool", and this gave me a galaxy brain idea: "wanna try?" he said yes, and so I gave the controller to him.

soon his sister, 4 - 6 years old, joined us, and again I was all "oh ♥♥♥♥ oh ♥♥♥♥ what am I going to do".

eventually the children's father, a teacher, came in, and me being the calm and collected person as I always am, said: "oh god holy dang I didn't I was just I mean uhhh"

the teacher just laughed. apparently he's a fan of horror games and movies so he didn't really care. I'm not sure if he knew about Isaac, but anyway, when they were leaving the boy asked the teacher if he could buy Isaac for him.

I'd like to say the moral of the story is that "kids probably won't care too much if you don't give them a reason to" because I also recall playing definitely-not-for-minors games when I was young, but these are just two examples.

hell, if your parents are against it, maybe you could have some cool sibling moments where you're doing something that you know is taboo while trying to hide it from the adults?

The only sexual item I can think of is a gimp mask, and I doubt a 10 year old would know what it is. There's also mom's pad and mom's bra, but unless your brother is into rancid old women it shouldn't be an issue either.

This mod probably will be useful (this one supports repentance)

A pretty big retexture mod exist
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2240932952
makes the game look... more "family-friendly". There is no repentance update but it's slowly progressing towards it.
If I recall correctly there is also a bunch of retexture mods in workshop that replace specific items like Cricket's Head with something else but can't find them right now for some reason.
UPD: found the one I mentioned at the end

It's actually an entire character, Lilith. Her starting items are "Cambion Conception", which triggers upon having taken damage enough times and causes her to look progressively more pregnant while spawning demonic familiars, and "Incubus" which is relatively innocuous outside the name. Her unlocks, in addition to letting you obtain the above things as other characters, include a "Succubus" who again doesn't exactly live up to the name, and her Tainted counterpart which slaps enemies with a demon fetus as her main form of offense. There's also one of Eve's starting items whose name triggers Steam's profanity filter; I refer to it as "Harlot" because that's what Shin Megami Tensei uses for the same Biblical character.

Keeper's Sack also has a design that evokes a very different kind of sack than the one it's supposed to be, as well.

This is rather inconsecuential, as the items do not actually act as their biblical counterparts or show any sort of "conception acts", it just happens.

This, however, is correct.

Also other things that could be innapropiate for minors are: "Transcendence" for referencing suicide, "Blood Rights", "Razor Blade" and "Dull Razor" for referencing self harm, "Wavy Cap" for it's seizure inducing visual effects, "Cat-O-Nine-Tails" for referencing torture/bdsm, plus the several dead animals and severed body parts such as "Leprocy" or "Finger!".
As you can see, it's really hard to adapt this game for it to be kid friendly, it just has too much stuff in it to just censor it all.
