Question about the Red Key (spoilers) (Solved)

Okay, so, I got up to Home total of four times as of now, each time with different characters, but I only got the Red Key from the chest in Mom's room once, in my first time getting in there with Azazel. All sequential times there was a random active item, such as Mom's box of pills. Therein, the question: how do I find a Red Key to unlock REDACTED characters? When I pucked it up, I got prompt saying that it has appeared in the Basement. Does that incline that I need to find it RANDOMLY as a drop in an item room, shop, boss, devil / angel room, boss rush room, chest or something like that? So basically, there is no set place for it to be found? Because if so, well ♥♥♥♥, do I not see it being plausible to unlock others in any time soon, and boy do I not appreciate it, because boy does it feel neglecting of your effort to get to Home in the first place, that You can't even get the unlock from it. Or is there some other catch, like, you have to defeat Mother before You try and take on Home run? Or what?

You can drop a random trinket inside item rooms / boss rooms on your way to Depths 2, which will turn into a one-time-use Red-Key-Activatable in the flashbacks, once you revisit those said rooms.

1st time: red key
Every other time: A mom item

If you want a red key you can abandon a trinket in a boss/treasure room and when you are going back after taking Dad's note the trinket will be in the same place but it will be a red key shard ( a consumable version of the Red key )

I did encountered red key shards, but used them on the secret rooms doors to which were outlined on the same floors, and those were, so far as I can tell, one 3-item treasure room, and 2, encounter room with group of champion enemies. Is the trick to take the shards up to Home, or to just keep trying until I get lucky?

Yeah, you need to take only one shard to "Home", to the long corridor on the left, you will find a red door outline there. (The house is symmetrical). Good luck!

Yes take the red key shard to Home, it's the same as the Red Key item but only usable once.

You can get lucky and see the Red Key again in mom's chest, but it's RNG

Dang, I've been trying to transform my trinkets into key fragments inside Home and had no idea why it wasn't working.
