Controller is useless

I did a search, couldn't find any relevant posts.. so here goes a new discussion.

I have a bluetooth gamepad, It works. In TBoI Afterbirth+ it does not.

I can assign keys (although the controller button assign screen is mysteriously absent of any button labels - I have to switch between the keyboard assign screen and controller assign screen to know which line does what. I assign all keys.

I can move the cursor from menu item to menu item after this. But that is it. I can't do anything else.

I switch controller mode (in a game) to gamepad and nothing works after that. Keyboard stops working, gamepad does not a thing. Have to force quit.

The controller is connected and working. It is recognized by the game. I can assign buttons. I can move the cursor in the menu up and down and left and right.

I CANT "enter" or leave any menus with the controller, I can't move/shoot in the game with the controller. Switching from keyboard to controller in the game menu is a block, because I can't leave the menu after that, and keyboard stops working, so I can't even switch it back.

I got a bluetooth controller because I need to play it wirelessly. If I have to use cable USB to play, then it is a failure.

If I use the USB cable, it is recognised as a different device, and does not fix my problem because I need the bluetooth device to work...

Anyway, both USB mode and Bluetooth mode are the same - not working.

Have you tried to configure the controller on steam?(Settings -->controller)
