People keep complaining about these and saying they have no tell, though i'm fairly certain the wooden parts are darker.
Is thewaythey arespawned that if a normal chest is going to spawn, it rolls for a chance to become a mimic? Or are mimics a separate roll for the room drop?

i don't know and i can't even see a difference, ♥♥♥♥ mechanic taken from an equally ♥♥♥♥♥♥ game

EM added a visual tell for mimics.

OP, mimics aren't new to games, and have their roots in D&D. Many have even asked for them to be added to the game.

From the last update, indeed. For the first day, the only way to tell if it was a mimic was to stand near it (because it reveals its spikes before touching it).

But people are too used to run into chest mindlessly. Now they must pay attention, devs are so horrible and all that, whatever.

It's a nice little new thing in my opinion.
From gungeon.

Your opinion is invalid because of these two words.
Great idea.

Terrible consequences....

Atleast gungeon's mimics have a tell if you wait a bit, or do it the fast way and shoot em once before opening. This, however, is just a ♥♥♥♥ move. No tells, just a cheap way throw you off and do some cheap damage you never see coming, especially given how abundant chests are in Isaac. Whereas in gungeon they only show up in pairs every floor and there's no reason to rush in ussually (with the exception of mimics with fuses, but damn that's rare).

So, meh, they should probably nerf them with a not too hard to spot tell, or something. Unless their sole design was to be a ♥♥♥♥ move to the players. In which case they succeeded...

I really hope you know that mimic chests did not originate from Enter the Gungeon.

they've been around since tabletop games like Dungeons and Dragons were created

You can now tell if it is a mimic or not, mimic are a lot darker than normal chest and the spike are popping when you are near them. Just adapt your playstyle. Isaac was never meant to be a no brain, easy game.

why copy the most cancerous thing from gungeon, a game that stole the diea from crypt of the necrodancer, which stiole the idea from EVERY SINGLE RPG AND ACTION RPG SINCE 1994.
mimics are a thing. get over it. when you see a chest that is suddenly in an area you KNOW you were in, guess what/ ^^ its a mimic. git gud, ffs

Remember when Mimics in games had no tell? You either got a chest or a mimic and there was no way to tell? And in some games these mimics could literally one shot you? And devs learned from that? Reading here you just don't mindlessly run into them, just approach them and you can tell.

As others have said you just don't mindlessly run into chests like people used to and it'll be fine.
