Why Delirium is a terrible boss.
Delirium isn't bad because it is hard. Delirium isn't bad because of it simply being an advanced boss rush.

Delirium is bad because he lacks an actual boss pattern. A good boss has readable patterns that are reasonable for the player to deal with. The hardest boss created by mankind has patterns that are easy to follow:

Meanwhile, the Delirium fight is a giant cluster♥♥♥♥. It frantically teleports around and does whatever it wants. Simply fixing its "teleporting on you" is not enough. I honestly think that the boss needs an entire rework in order for it to be considered a fun boss fight. Get rid of its transforming teleporting nonsense. Make an actual boss fight with well defined patterns. A final boss that the game deserves, one that is very difficult but also very fun to fight, like Hush and Mega Satan.

There have literally been about 15 threads in the last 10 days talking about this already. :) Yes, he sucks. He is an obviously very rushed and untested boss.

Hold on a sec, you find Hush fun to fight?
What's your secret? How do you manage to not fall asleep while fighting him?

Another good problem to solve is boss armor.

He's bad because he's a worst version of every boss he turns into

He's bad because he's made of white bodily liquid

He's bad because he doesn't fit in with the void. Theres nothing voidish about him

He's bad because even if he takes a powerful form he'll right away ditch it

He's bad because your MASSIVELY OP by the time you fight him

He's bad because most other top tier bosses have boss armor, actually look cool, and are interesting

He's bad because take away the invisible tear ring spitting ghost all the bullet hell disappears.

And I could go on forever, I have no excitement at the thoughts of fighting him again. I don't enjoy it. I like the lamb, mega satan, sometimes hush, really like ultra greed gold. But White liquid head is 0/10. Not scary, not cool, lame, boring, uninteresting, its just a huge hp.

This boss is just running around a giant room for 5 minutes or less.

After fighting him a couple time, I haven't died to him, and have no desire to fight him anymore. Its not a fun fight.

I can't take him seriously at all. I can't be intmidated by him. He's just a bunch of isaac juice, theres nothing cool about that. He's like fighting muggers, evil vampires, warlocks and things then your final boss is a "scary" glass of water.

He's fun because you can read what happens (except when it spawns on you)

He's fun because he makes you react very quickly

He's fun because you can fight some "low tier" bosses in a bullet hell (they are a bit too fast and last a bit too short)

He's fun because it's exactly what the void does, it absorbs power on every level and send you it all to your face at once

He's fun for the wanted glitches

He's fun because he's hard to beat

But he's not perfect. Alas.

I genuinely think that's intended, and that the devs were deliberatly going that way when designing it.

I, just like you, also think that was a terrible idea from the beginning, but that's the theme they were going for and from a lore perspective, it kinda make sense.

Anyway, you're not going to be heard by the devs around here. Reddit/Twitter is the place for this kind of threads ;)

Why do so meny complain over boss pattern? He do have a pattern most of you seem to blind to see it.i think this boss was a good change to the other bosses wich you basicly sleep your way through since the patterns are memorized.

This is his pattern
Every boss pattern (randomized choice) if you beat all bosses on the way there this shouldnt be breaking a sweat on you.

His own pattern as delirium (basicly just teleport from left to right and shoot tears that sometimes explode)

Wasnt that hard to figure out was it?

i actually like delirium because of the concept of madness and a dying memory. would you expect a dying and insane child's memory to have a pattern? i know i wouldnt.

He has a pattern, but teleporting on you shouldn't be part of it.

Lore should not be a priority over gameplay. I know that they were aiming for a sense of madness, but gameplay design shouldn't be sacrificed for it.

And it's possible to achieve madness without making a cluster♥♥♥♥ boss fight.

I just don't like the lore associated with him. It's the equivelent of "and he woke up to find it was all a dream".

Also yeah, there's not much to the fight, I find if I'm there I can tend to easily beat him, he's not very intersting, yeah I think he needs a rework.

I'm now concinced that Delirium isn't a bad design, it's just horribly broken. Almost every time I've taken unavoidable damage, it was linked to some kind of glitch, like Mama Gurdy spawning in the middle of the room instead of the top, or the Lil Haunt form that breaks physics. And none of its forms have any idea where their hit-boxes are. From a programmer's perspective, it looks to me like a lot of the things Delirium does weren't intended. Obviously, it's supposed to teleport and transform, but it does a lot of other things too that shouldn't even be possible. It feels like I'm fighting an error, not a boss.

The way to him takes time, in that time you definately find usefull things helping you to beat him quite easily. Last run i had only two red hearts and a Drowsy pill. Used the pill at the start of the fight and he and his shots got slowed so much, i killed him without taking damage. Sometimes its the small things saving your life :golden:

The events of Isaac's basement adventure not actually happening was clear from the very first time you die in the flash version.

(Hint: You don't write your last will after you die.)
