Help with Isaac not Working and Antibirth installation

Made this for someone who I believe deleted their post, it was going to be small but I ended up creating possible fixes a-plenty.

1. To install Antibirth:

• Uninstall Afterbirth+;
  
• Uninstall Afterbirth;
  
• Download Antibirth from the developers website (Any other site could be dangerous);
  
• Extract the zip file to somewhere conveniant (I recommend your desktop or downloads);
  
• Run the Antibirth installer (There should be an installer, a .bat (batch) file);
  
• Reinstall Afterbirth;
  
• Reinstall Afterbirth+.

2. To add Antibirth to Steam as a seperate game:

• With Steam open, click on "ADD A GAME..." on the bottom left;
  
• Click on "Add a Non-Steam Game...";
  
• Click on "Browse";
  
• Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Binding of Isaac Rebirth\Antibirth (Or copy and paste this (Exept if your install directory is different) into the address bar);
  
• Click on isaac-ng.exe;
  
• Click on "Open";
  
• Click on "ADD SELECTED PROGRAMS".

3. To completely reinstall The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth from scratch (Don't worry, your saves will be stored to the Steam cloud, but make sure to create backups... always):

• Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\;
  
• Delete "The Binding of isaac Rebirth";
  
• Go to C:\Users\[NameOfComputer]\Documents\my games;
  
• Delete "Binding of Isaac Rebirth", "Binding of Isaac Afterbirth", "Binding of Isaac Afterbirth+", "Binding of Isaac Afterbirth+ Mods";
  
• Reinstall Rebirth;
  
• (Install Antibirth here if wanted);
  
• Reinstall Afterbirth;
  
• Reinstall Afterbirth+.

Remember to make backups of the things you're deleting before deleting them!

4. How to fix game crashes with "no" prompt (No "isaac-ng.exe has stopped working)
(Possibly due to mods)

• Go to C:\Users\[NameOfComputer]\Documents\my games\Binding of Isaac Afterbirth+;
  
• Scroll to the bottom and open options.ini;
  
• Change EnableMods = 1 to EnableMods = 0;
  
• Save with ctrl+s, or file > save, or file > save as > (Click on options.ini) > save > ok.

5. How to fix game crashes "with" prompt (isaac-ng.exe has stopped working) (These I've only heard as solutions and may not work)
Method one:

• Go to C:\Users\[NameOfComputer]\Documents\my games\Binding of Isaac Afterbirth+ Mods;
  
• Delete everything but not the folder itsself (Binding of Isaac Afterbirth+ Mods).

Method two:

• Right click on The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth in your Steam library;
  
• Click on "Properties";
  
• Go to the local files tab;
  
• Click on Varify Integrity of Game Files.

Method Three (This has been known to break games):

• Uninstall the game;
  
• Reinstall the game;

That simple. :T Honestly it's probably nothing but make sure you uninstall Afterbirth+ then Afterbirth, then Rebirth in that order, it might help; then reinstall them in reverse order so everthing builds on top of each other.

Let me know if any of these help.

How do I do this on a mac?



Edit: I finally figured this out. You go to ~/Library/Application Support/ (by pressing CMD+Shift+G) then find the folder that says Binding of Isaac Afterbirth (or Afterbirth +), and delete it. I tried this thinking it would delete my saves but aparrently the save files are in a different location or something because I didnt lose them. Hope this helps anyone else

A lot of hotkeys for Windows are the same on mac, ctrl is usually exchanged for cmd.
As for the directories, they tend to be unique to Mac, so a quick Google search should show you where to go.

how many files or folders are there meantt to be in the c:\users ( and so on so fourth ) folder because for me there is 5 it does not seem enough last time there was 50 or so before i deleted all the mods

In the mods folder in your Documents, there should be as many files as their are mods you've subscribed to and downloaded.
As for your Common folder, there should only be 4. all starting with "Binding of Isaac".

Yeah, when varifying the game, Steam compares the files to a master file on it's system, and if it can't find some files, it will reaquire them for you.
I'm glad things are getting done. :)

I have tried all 3 of the fix the game methods. still doesnt work. was given brief hope with method 2, which said 16 files were missing, but unfortunately they were files i had just deleted trying a fix i found on a different page. I have checked both the "my subscribed" and "binding of isaac AB+ mods" folders, and deleted everything out of there/unsubbed, un and re installed. The exact error that happens is as follows: I press start on isaac, it goes to the opening cinematic. being a normal person, i press space/enter to skip, then the game freezes on a white screen, a window opens that says Isaac.ng.exe has stopped working for some reason. it quickly decides it cannot find an answer and closes down. i tried updating my C++ (even though i already had x86) i tried updating my graphics driver to the latest version as well. I am running windows 7 tho, so that could be a BIT of a problem, but it has never been before, and i dont believe there was a new update today. i had been playing some before it crashed, just trying to shut off some mods (stillbirth, alphabirth, and a few little content packs) and it crashed as the game often does when trying to deactivate mods, and the next time i tried to log in this started. i have never had this problem before in my 500+ hours of playing the game, so kind of bummed. 'specially since i had just defeated delirium as the keeper. hardest freaking thing of my life XD

I would definately recommend you don't delete any files, they're there for a reason. xD If you could find this "fix", could you link it to me? I'd like to see it for myself.

I would try fix 4 real quick just to see if it is a mod causing the problem, conflicting or corrupt mods will only crash when their scripts are ran, so sometime a player can go a whole game without seeing an item that would have caused a crash, or they could enter the first treasure room and crash.
Additionally fix 3 is an "If all else fails" type fix, I'd try that now. Your saves should be safe thanks to Steam Cloud but always create backups, in this case they'll only be temporary on your desktop until your can ensure your saves are all there in one piece, if so you can just delete them, if not you can drag the files back into the correct folder.

Heya, back to update on the situation. It isnt mods. I actually think that SOMEHOW, the mods were fixing my game. because i just tried fix 3 again ( haha, you think i must worry about backups? i have 3 in various places on my comp, and on google drive! hoping to get a bullet proof safe and have a copy on a USB in there. maybe just a little joking) I did the whole uninstall and reinstall in order that it would have happened if i had just done it for the first time. I believe its my afterbirth +. I dont know how, but it is working with both rebirth and afterbirth, but once i download afterbirth + and try to play that, doesnt work. BTW the guy who said to do the deleting thing was simon on the pinned "known issues" discussion. basically he just said that in one of the folders there is supposed to be one thing called "packed" and in mine there was "packed" and "Scripts" so i deleted scripts. thankfully nothing important, and on verifying cache, it just redownloaded them.

So i did a bit more digging and actually reading through the crash files, and there so far seems to be two errors i can find in the entire string. at one point in the log it says "Loading GameState 1 from SteamCloud!
[INFO] - SteamCloud could not find or open abp_gamestate1.dat. No Game State detected." So does that mean somehow my save file is gone or something? at the end of the whole log it also says "Familiar Count 13Caught Exception, writing minidump...." So uhh.. yea. those seem to be the only things that are glaringly obvious as errors. Any ideas? i have uninstalled and reinstalled everything several times, used one of my backups from before it was having this problem, and it still doesnt work.. much confuse

WHOOT! i fixed it! literally just took my oldest backup ( which i thought would set back my content) and used that, and its got my newest updated stuff! Thank you for all of your time in trying to help me, it is greatly appreciated.

I'm glad you got it sorted, I'm sorry I wasn't able to offer any help; I believe old saves would set you back but Steam would sync Steam cloud to your game, so it will still be up to date, I could be wrong though. :P

I got this to work! I had an NVidia update that I needed to take. For some reason my computer didn't think I had a graphics card. I grabbed an update and now it works. :)

I know this is an old post but I have the same problem with Isaac. It always starts normally but never gets past the Edumund part without it saying isaac.ng err. I am a bit curious as I can still hear the speaker talking about Isaac even if it says that it is not responding.
P.S. I have never played Rebirth I just played Afterbirth+ and I have no mods.
