you have to learn to beat greed mode with most or all the characters if you want to have any hope of filling the machine to 999+1
Maggy: She's a meh character. Her new speed up pill gets rid of her speed problem and she has the Yum Heart which is very good at helping her retain health. If you don't get a better space bar item, a good strategy is to get health upgrades for her so that she can take more hits. But other than that she's just Isaac with a pretty wig and an extra heart container.
Cain: His starting key can save you 3/5 coins you can to use to buy a key to open your item room if you haven't gotten a way to obtain free keys. The Paperclip is also useful if you ever find chests in the shop or the D20 and decide to reroll a bunch of money into other consumables. He also starts with slightly higher damage compared to Isaac so that is nice.
Judas: Pretty ok character. His Book of Belial can easily be used if you need to take a break in between waves. (Don't use it multiple times when you already activated it. It does not stack.) He also has slightly higher damage. However, his one heart can be an accident waiting to happen. Taking the curse room with just one heart is asking the game to kill you. Health upgrades are a must.
???: My opinion fairly mediocre. I like ??? in normal runs because you never have to worry about losing a deal with the devil/angel when you take damage. But in Greed mode, taking damage isn't much of a problem if you aim to get a devil/angel deal (Only thing you have to worry about health wise is the Devil deal killing you or not). But ???'s soul heart gimmick can be hard to keep him alive and refill his health if he loses some of it. And the Poop isn't doing him much favors unless he gets Petrified Poop or Midas' Touch.
Eve: Like normal runs, she is high risk and high reward with her ♥♥♥♥♥ of Babylon. Keep in mind that she just needs one full heart to go into ♥♥♥♥♥ of Babylon and not half a heart like everyone else. I advise having at least one heart and having soul hearts for the ♥♥♥♥♥ of Babylon.
Samson: Samson is like Eve except you don't have to constantly put yourself into too much danger. Get health and take damage on purpose to recieve a good damage boost after taking damage (Make sure to buy hearts so you don't end up being a one hit wonder however). And if you find items that fully restore your health like Magic Mush or <3, take damage before taking it.
Azazel: A very OP character in normal runs but pretty mediocre in Greed Mode. That short range, slow charging Brimstone shot is not doing any favors for him in the Greed fight. Your best bet with him is to get regular Brimstone or get Tears upgrades and good damage as well.
Lazarus: He is pretty good. He is Isaac except for the -2 Luck. However his -2 Luck isn't much of a hinderance excluding tear effects (Ok maybe that is a bit of a hinderance) and he can have a good pill to start with. However his starting pill is a literal gamble. And don't forget his extra life. Don't waste the extra life however.
Eden: It's a literal gamble. You can have an OP start or a very crappy character. Nothing more to really say here.
The Lost: Lost has flight and spectral tears. He is good at hiding in obstacles and he does not take damage from the button. If you need to restore the mantle for him, push the button and leave the room to do so. And he can take Devil deals for free. Just be careful not to get hit. Oh and if you see extra life items like 1-up! or Dead Cat, be sure to obtain them.
Lilith: Lilith is great at completely destroying Greed rounds but be sure to get items that'll help you in the Greed fight since you will most likely not have a giant familiar army during that time.
The Keeper: The coins that spawn during rounds are literal life support for him. Get tear upgrades and try to reroll health upgrades. If you want to get devil deals, get Judas' Tounge so you can at least get them. Also make sure to have a health upgrade after taking the deal. Or else you'll end up being a one-hit wonder.
Apollyon: This character, like Isaac, has potential to do wonders in this mode since he is able to put multiple space bar item effects into one space bar item and he can use said space bar item to turn garbage items into helpful stat boosts. Also, the effects of one-use space bar items will not persist. It will only occur once with the Void and then it'll never happen again. The Void will also not be able to do certain passive bonuses (Such as flight from A Pony/White Pony).
yeah, its "scummy" but it saves a lot of frustration if you can guarantee yourself a dps upgrade right from the start.
winning greed mode is all about stacking as much dps as possible, with health being the second priority. red hearts or blue hearts are both good.
usually on the regular mode, i try to keep my red heart containers low, so I have more room for blue hearts which in turn makes it easier to get devil deals, but that's not necessary in greed mode as the deal always opens whafter you beat the final optional wave.
also, as the keeper, if you take a devil deal and lose one of your coin(hearts), can permanently get it back by using srength card, which is temporary for everyone else.
So... Do you have D6 for Isaac? (Beat Isaac [boss of Cathedral] with ??? [character] to unlock if you don't) Again, starting with the D6, Isaac is the most solid character in the game, overall.
Bonus: Re-roll everything. Flaw: None.
No. He never said ANYTHING about the # of coins in the machine. All he mentioned was wanting to get Keeper (which I honestly didn't notice when I made my initial post; but I'm betting he won't be the only person who uses this thread so it's still useful info).
if you switch between characters, the counter % doesn't go up so fast and you can donate a lot more per run.
I was doing it with the same character over and over, not for the coins but to find the rest of the pedestal items and I noticed that everyone has 1% and when I was filling the machine back up, it was staying at 1%, but I also already had all the stuff unlocked already and was filling the machine back up for the second time so I dunno.
but I DID notice that same character had 17% jam rate on greed mode while having 1% on greedier.
so, it seems like if you still want to grind out greed mode with the same character, you might need to do greedIER mode in AB+
or just suffer through and use all the different characters like everyone else did before they had AB+
p.s.
I think Lilith is the best for greed mode, because she can use the box of friends multiple times per floor as long as you stay in the first room and fight all the waves off, you can get 3 uses out of the box and have just enough charge left over for the next floor
Azazel has damage, but his charge time is a bit dangerous in greed mode due to the potential of mobs of enemies turning up from all sides at once. Also if you don't get some serious range boosts or an alternate tear effect, ultra greed/greedier is pretty annoying for azazel.
2. the discussion may be old but I believe my points are still valid, since this discussion is still relevant as there are still people who haven't filled up the greed machine
3. you are a hypocrite, because when you respond to a necro post to shoot someone down for necroing a post, you are bumping the thread up even higher which mean you are even more guilty of necromancy than the person you are attempting to persecute...dude
Dude is commonly used as a gender neutral term. While it literally means a male person, basically everyone calls anyone a "dude" regardless of gender
