Disappointed in New Game+
I was really hoping New Game+ mode were more substantial than what it has turned out to be. Except for boss fights, enemies dealing double damage is almost completely meaningless since it's pretty easy to avoid getting hit, especially when you've already got your full set of equipment and don't need to go out of your way to get treasure. Lack of healing food in platters doesn't matter since you can still carry two healing ichors at literally no cost.

I was hoping YCG would take another cue from Mega Man here, specifically 9 and 10 where the Hard Mode had more difficult enemy layouts and new attack patterns for bosses.

The other 3 knights coming with updates may satisfy your difficulty needs.

Have you finished ng+ already? I imagine the 8 bosses in line to be quite difficult.

Also you can always try to get some of those ridiculous achievments.
Destroying all checkpoints. Not getting hit. Hurry up! Greed. Starving. etc ...

Yeah I'm finding it surprisingly easy. I'm one knight from the tower on NG+ and I've definitely died far fewer times than on the original run. I know I'm being more careful, but I'm also just that much better at the game. Knights that gave me trouble before (Spectre/Mole) I've defeated on my first try this time without taking more than a few hits.

I agree that the levels should have been remixed a bit to change up the pace. Obviously they don't need to be completely redone, but Megaman Powered Up had the right idea by making minor adjustments to the level layout (removing tiles here or there to change jumps, or adding extra environmental hazards) on harder difficulties just to throw the player off, on top of enemy layouts.

And yeah, double damage is almost completely irrelevant everywhere except for bosses, plus without anything to spend money on you have no reason to try your hand at the side rooms which were often the hardest parts of a level.

It almost feels like NG and NG+ should have been labelled Easy, Normal, (let players start on either) and then have NG+ be Hard with some actual level changes.

I'm inclined to agree. I'm going through NG+ atm and it does feel like it should be the normal difficulty straight up, with the "New Game" difficulty being somewhat of an easy mode that should work like training wheels (go through 4 knights then get a message saying "nice try but you should go normal mode if you want to proceed further" or something similar).

That's what turned me off from getting the game...I was so excited for it, however I kept reading how it wasn't THAT challenging. Honestly I don't understand why some games nowadays can't let you start in hard mode right off the bat. Think I'll wait for a price drop on 3DS since I also saw reviewers stating the WiiU/3DS versions are superior to Steam.

This is what people don't get when I complain about items that make the game vastly a cakewalk like health chalice. The game is naturally easy because these items exist, whether I choose to use them or not. I'll say it again: The game is EASY and I cannot tell to someone "the game is easy as a cakewalk unless you decide not to use OP items" without laughing.

Mega Man E tanks compensate for the "Nintendo hard" difficulty (finite lives, bosses that are by default nail-biting unless you know their weakness) and weren't available until later in the game, Dark Souls allows you to retrieve your souls but the distance between bonfires was unforgiving and made you think twice before risking to advance.

Don't get me wrong; I bloody love the game and I'm on my way to 100% every achievement. Just because there are challenges that you can optionally put yourself through doesn't mean that it makes the inherent difficulty harder. The game is inherently easy because it melds concepts from the mentioned games out of their context, without their downsides.

That would suck so much.
"Yo, don't buy/play our game if you aren't good enough!"

Any idea what that involves? I'd love a mode that makes ichors less powerful or something.

They will basically be sets of challenge rooms. They will be really hard, and some will have their own rule sets, like killing all enemies, not killing any enemies or having a time limit.

They will add even more stuff? wow, thats awesome but what I wanna know is, does the ending change or is there some new stuff in new game+ or is it just a difficulty ramp up?

It's just a difficulty ramp up. It doubles damage, removes meat from the stages (All replaced with bombs) and there's less checkpoints. But yes, there will be free updates to the game that will add more content, including a local multiplayer battle mode, 3 new adventures where you play as Specter Knight, King Knight and Plague Knight, Genderswap mode and Challenge mode.

Unless you're a long-time veteran of platformers who innately knows how to exploit every edge given, the game really isn't that easy.

True thing. In ng+ I now keep forgetting to refill my chalices (didn't buy them on the first run) and I am often too slow at switching to and using the phase locket in time to save me from spikes.

OR you can try to get better. 3 hours ago I couldn't kill all 8 bosses in a row on new game+ but I learned.

Mind-blowing, I know. You should try it sometime. Or not. Couldn't care less.
